10 AM

Running 1:05:00 [3]
shoes: Nike Lunar Glide

Can't handle not recording my training.
Went for a run. Thought I might make it a build run but got a bit tired so just did a couple of surges.

Orienteering 1:15:16 [4] **** 14.09 km (5:21 / km) +286m 4:51 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

H1 at Peterdine again. Heart good today but felt a bit tired from yesterday. Pretty good technically, just a few small lapses in concentration. Speed was about the same as Ben but made a few less 30 second mistakes than him so ended up 3 minutes ahead today but still 3 behind overall.

Orienteering 58:07 [3] **** 9.68 km (6:00 / km) +201m 5:26 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

H1 at Peterdine. Started slowly but heart was bad from pretty early anyway. Had to walk lots and had lots of dizzy spells after finishing. About 6:30 down on Ben, half of that from the last 5 short legs up the hill to the finish.

Heart still bad during the night relay at about 7pm.

Running 30:00 [3]

Pretty sure I went for a run because I remember coming home to find Rachel stuck in the lounge unable to move after hurting her back.
No idea where I went or how I felt.

Wednesday May 25, 2011 #

Note

Decided I need to stop measuring and recording my training so that I might be a little more willing to listen to my body.

Felt pretty good running yesterday and today.
6 AM

Running 40:00 [3]

Think it was a kind of view trail loop. Can't really remember but apparently felt pretty good.

Running 1:00:00 intensity: (40:00 @3) + (20:00 @4)

10k loop plus a bit mostly with Rachel. Struggling to keep up with Rachel early but felt good after about 20 minutes so started doing some surges and then looping back.

Sunday May 22, 2011 #

6 AM

Running 38:53 [3]
shoes: Nike Free 3.0

Easy run around part of Bunbury half marathon course. Did 1km pretty fast I thought but it was actually only 4:30. A bit tight down lateral side of left leg.

7 AM

Running long 1:23:13 intensity: (58:13 @2) + (15:00 @3) + (10:00 @4)
shoes: Nike Lunar Glide

Long run via rehab, Little Possums, golf course to railway trail at Janeczek then home along the railway trail. Felt much better than yesterday. Had to pick up the pace a bit along the railway trail because I was getting a bit tired but I did start to feel less tired by the end.

Running 40:55 intensity: (10:55 @1) + (10:00 @2) + (10:00 @3) + (10:00 @4)
shoes: Nike Free Run

Really struggled to get going this morning, could barely get my feet off the ground and the first km would have been over 8:30. Eventually got moving a bit better on a long downhill stretch and then had to push the second half to get back in time for Rachel to make her physio appointment.
Really warm early, seriously considered removing my shirt, but by the end it was quite cool and raining very lightly.

Running 49:49 [2]
shoes: Nike Lunar Glide

Easy run. Feeling a bit tired.

Tuesday May 17, 2011 #

10 AM

Running 55:25 intensity: (30:00 @2) + (25:25 @4)
shoes: Adizero Boston

2x3k with 90s recovery at the oval with Rachel. Planned to just run with Rachel at 4:15/km but she made me go in front and I didn't have a gps so I just ran what felt comfortable and ended up doing about 3.2k in the 12:40-12:45 that Rachel was running for. First one felt pretty easy but I was starting to feel a little tired by the end of the second. Heart was good apart from a couple of odd beats just after finishing the first effort and just before finishing the second.
Legs feeling really heavy on the jog home so I walked up the steeper hills.

Event: Julimar

10 AM

Orienteering 53:11 [4] *** 7.1 km (7:29 / km) +300m 6:11 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

H2 at Julimar.
Not very focussed but still an ok run technically, don't remember any mistakes. Heart started to play up heading towards 3 but wasn't too bad until I hit the climb after crossing the creek coming into 8. Had to walk a lot after that. Not as much fun as I thought it would be, definitely not the julimar I remember.
Ben got me by 1:40.
11 AM

Orienteering 22:57 intensity: (7:00 @2) + (7:57 @3) + (8:00 @5) *** 2.5 km (9:11 / km) +100m 7:39 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Julimar Sprint.
Started 1min before Ben so pushed hard out of the start. Almost made it to 5 before my heart packed it in and still had a 13 second lead on Ben at 7 but that is about where my race ended. Tried to aim off a little to the left on 8 and thought I came out pretty close but couldn't see it. Ran around like a headless chook for a few minutes before finding it well left of where I came out. Later decided it must have been on the other rocky spur about 100m to the SW. Heart was feeling pretty bad at this stage so walked up the hill to 9 then rolled my ankle at 9 so walked to 10 and jogged the rest.

View trail again but did the full loop this time (short version). Feeling a bit tired.

Running 29:33 [3]
shoes: Nike Free 3.0

Just an easy run but felt real good. Reminded me why I like running.

Running 31:39 [2]

Easy run out the view trail to the lookout and back. Nice way to start the day.

Running 40:29 intensity: (20:29 @2) + (20:00 @3)
shoes: Nike Free Run

Feeling even more stiff, tired and old this morning after a very interrupted night's sleep but I did eventually manage to drag myself out. Quads a bit sore but otherwise didn't feel as bad as expected.

Tuesday May 10, 2011 #

10 AM

Running 41:00 intensity: (16:00 @2) + (25:00 @4)
shoes: Adizero Boston

Couldn't drag my stiff tired old body out of bed early in the morning so I did Rachel's session of 3x2k (90s rest) at Yokine Reserve with her instead.
Feeling ok by the end of the 14:30 warm up but my quads were a bit sore in places doing drills.
Made it about 400m into the first effort before my heart was set off by overtaking a pair of dogs that were fighting. Rest of the session felt easy in the legs but uncomfortable in the chest. Supposed to be doing 8:30 but we did them all in 8:20 despite my efforts to slow Rachel down.
Just walked back to the car as a warm down.

Sunday May 8, 2011 #

7 AM

Running long 1:16:30 [3]
shoes: Nike Lunar Glide

Kind of a shortened version of the old 90min loop. Mostly slow but a bit faster up the gentle hills off the top of the steep hills towards the end. Feeling as though I raced hard yesterday.

Running warm up/down 12:00 [2]
shoes: Nike Free Run

Seemed easier to do the sprint at Guildford than try to fit in a run in the morning so I did enough warm up to do my planned 30min assuming I would take about 18 minutes to run the sprint.

Orienteering 18:16 [4] **
shoes: Nike Free Run

Guildford Grammar Nav Dash. Heart playing up before starting but didn't expect to feel great anyway after lunch at the junction ice creamery shortly before arriving.
Tried to just run a steady pace all the way and didn't feel all that bad most of the time. Had a bit of a hesitation at one control which I'd like to blame on a bad patch with my heart but not sure if that is fair.
Quite an enjoyable run but didn't feel good for the next couple of hours so I will try harder to resist the temptation in future.

Running 42:20 [3]
shoes: Nike Free 3.0

Strettle reserve via rehab area. Reasonably solid pace with a bit of surging. Enjoying training again so far. Right knee a little stiff again and right quad/hip flexor a bit sore surging up hills, probably related.

Running 42:04 [2]
shoes: Nike Lunar Glide

Rehab loop. Didn't bother trying to build the pace this time.

Tuesday May 3, 2011 #

6 AM

Running 52:02 [3]
shoes: Nike Free Run

Tried to do a build run but I kept getting tired and slowing down again. Right knee a bit stiff early and right shin a little sore late.

Orienteering 45:10 [4] **** 6.0 km (7:32 / km) +245m 6:15 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Ran around the Australian middle champs course early as a final check and to switch on controls. Couldn't see a thing heading into the sun on 2 and 4 and made a small mistake on 4 but otherwise an ok run. Stopped to do up my laces on the way to 10. Heart pretty good through the first half with just a few brief flutters but got really bad going into 11. Felt as though I had just finished an 800m track race when I got to 11 despite walking most of the final hill. Pretty disappointed with the time really, I know I wasn't really racing but I thought I was going better than that at least up to 10. Looking at the splits Blair seemed to be consistently faster than me up to there and slower after that which seems really odd.
Can't get garmin to download, might try again later.
