road run 49:41 [4] 12.55 km (3:58 / km)

Roland Park. Blister on rt foot hurting again. Was wearing 2 pr socks for running last week, but forgot today. Cycling seems fine. Or maybe I need a new pair of shoes.

The dogs were out in force tonight. I ran past one woman and her dog along the trail section - it parallels a street. I gave them a wide berth as usual. The dog charged at me (unleashed). I slowed to a walk and moved away....finally had to completely stop since the dog kept coming. When I stopped it ran back and she patted it. I started running again and once again it charged at me. At this point I am a good 20m away from the owner. I stop again as the dog is nipping at the back of my legs and barking. She calls it and the dog goes back. I ask her if she is going to leash it (she is carrying the leash) and she says "no." Just plain no. Meanwhile, the dog has charged me a third time! She made no attempt whatsoever to restrain it - didn't grab the collar or even scold it, whatever thats worth. So finally after several stops and starts I am 30m ahead and finally back on the trail from the street where I had walked to get out of the way. I called back that next time I'd call animal control and they'd take away the dog, to which she replied "no they won't" and I said "we'll see" and ran off. Meanwhile the dog is coming at me AGAIN! This time I'm already well up the trail and it can't catch up. What the hell? How can *anyone* be that inconsiderate, let alone blatently breaking the law and then acting like its perfectly acceptable for her to do so? Truly amazing. My only real recourse would be to carry pepper spray, but I'd hate to spray the dogs. Not their fault, after all. Spraying the owners is out of the question of course. The only thing I can do is defend myself against the beasts. Most of the time the owners will at least make an effort to restrain their unleashed dogs when they charge, and I do my part by giving the dog walkers a wide margin (especially when leashed) as a courtesy, but this just shocked me...I couldn't believe it. Had a fast time today as a result.
