Two small splitting loops, but overall this was very simplistic. It reminded me of navigation in M13.
It was not really head to head orienteering. It was just a cross country run.

So after 4 stages, there has really only been 1 stage (Te Aute) with any significant navigation required. That's been the disappointing aspect of STB2020 so far. Very little navigation required. Mostly just running races.

I am not a fan of mass start races. There were only 2 variations, and it was just follow the leader for 15 minutes. I don't consider this to be sprint orienteering. It is just a running race.

My lowest place of the weekend, but also the one where I gained the most time on the Black Jersey leader (Martin Dent). Unfortunately Martin gained too much time on me in the running races, and there were not enough navigating races over the weekend to make this up. Martin was too good for me this weekend.
My hopes were raised when I saw him standing still a few times looking confused. However, there were top elites running past every minutes, so this minimised any big time losses for Martin.

The first real navigational challenge of the weekend. The course was quite good, and there were several good route choice legs. I chose poorly on 11-12 and lost 30 seconds.
However, the mapping was illegible on a couple of occasions. The control circle was not cut clearly at 9 and many people were tricked unfairly by this. Also, the wall between 6 and 7 was both passable and impassable. The new symbol for passable wall is terrible, and the cartography did not help at all. It was impossible to tell on the run which parts were passable. Orienteering should not be a test of eyesight!

The toughest day walk I have ever done. The first 4.5kms were super steep, but on good surfaces. The last 2 kms were extremely difficult surfaces on scree slopes and technical rock climbs. Getting down required less fitness, but super concentration to avoid injury.

Hack of the day was wearing my spare socks as gloves to avoid injuring my hands in a trip or fall.
