Running hills 1:20:00 [4] 14.0 km (5:43 / km)

Another hot one, so another early start. After the 3.6km warm up, I met up with Schepisi at Walmer Street for the hills. He seems in pretty good shape, and had little trouble staying close to me for the first five reps.
He put in the bigs ones on the last and took it out.
I ran ok after a hot but solid week. All 6 hills were within a few seconds.

6x 545m hill runs.

1: 2:37 (3:56 recovery)
2: 2:39 (3:50 recovery)
3: 2:42 (4:15 recovery)
4: 2:37 (4:10 recovery)
5: 2:37 (4:53 recovery)

Running tempo 28:00 [4] 7.0 km (4:00 / km)

Undulating tempo run along the Yarra Boulevard at 6am.
4km from Wurrunjerri Spur to Studley Park, 2 minute rest and drink, then another 3km along the river and Merri Creek back to Heidelberg Road.
I am starting to feel a bit more comfortable running at high speed.

This weeks sessions have all been very early in the morning, and a bit shorter than planned (to leave time for Anne to get some exercise in before I leave for work). Still I seem to be getting through them ok, and feeling good for the rest of the day.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

Running intervals 40:00 [4] 7.0 km (5:43 / km)

I tried to run in the coolest part of the day, on what promises to be one of the hottest days in Melbourne on record.
It was still 32 degrees when I started at 6am. It didn't take long to warm up, and I did a few 800-900m reps along Merri Creek. It was a wise choice as I could feel the cool air pockets down by the creek where it was possibly 5 to 10 degrees cooler.
The reps were ok without being brilliant. I was still pretty hot by the end of 4 reps.
Off to work in the air conditioning for the rest of the day.

Yesterday's Jolimont railway line buckling caused me some issues getting home. I got on a anticlockwise city loop at Parliament to Melbourne Central. Then walked to Flinders St and then was lucky to find a Greensborough train waiting to go on platform 1. Full marks to Connex for at least providing a service rather than just giving up.

Running long 1:15:00 [2] 12.0 km (6:15 / km)

Another early start to get a longish run in before the heat.
I never got going to well today. My body hadn't woken up properly and the run was a bit of a grind.

Running hills 55:00 [4] 10.0 km (5:30 / km)

Hilly loop through Kew.
6am start to avoid the heat. I think there will be a few early morning runs this week.

Orienteering tempo 45:10 [4] 9.45 km (4:47 / km)

Silva Duo Run legs (legs 1 and 3 back to back).
We went up to help Dion and club out. The event had great atmosphere with a large % of the entrants under 40, and music, banners, prizes etc.
After the start, I had a race on the foot sections of the course against Blair and Simon. This was my first longer sustained effort since the 5 days, and I felt ok.

Beach Cricket 1:00:00 [1] 4.0 km (15:00 / km)

A full day trip from Melbourne to Separation Creek (15km past Lorne) to visit friends. I played beach cricket with Torren and Mason for about 4 hours, bowling, fielding and wicket-keeping (at the same time).
Plenty of short sprints to get ball before it rolled across the hard sand half way down the beach.
Mason and Torren claimed to have scored 300 off 25 overs.
