Note
(sick) (rest day)

Laid down with a virus that I caught from the kids. All 3 had vomitted during the week, but now it has got me.
I managed to do some xmas shopping and some work around the house, but was not well enough for a run.

Note
(rest day)

Feeling a bit tired and off colour, so a good time for a rest day.
I've had a minor chest infection for the past 2-3 weeks and don't seem to be able to shake it off.

Running 40:00 [3] 7.5 km (5:20 / km)

Moderate run to Bellbird Dell and back in the morning. I ran into Reuben and ran with him for 10 minutes.

Running long 1:15:00 [2] 15.0 km (5:00 / km)

Dozer's Dock run.

Running 45:00 [3] 9.0 km (5:00 / km)

One 1500m surge in the middle of a easy/moderate run around the tan. I didn't intent to run the tan handicap, but I did some pace making for Slips for the last 1500m. He ended up winning the race after a soft handicap, so I am claiming some credit for his performance.
I felt quite tired and lethargic this morning, so I didn't want to do too much. I felt a little better during and after the run.

Running 1:05:00 [3] 13.0 km (5:00 / km)

River run including a hill circuit around Como Park that Deek apparently used to run with our own Mike Bialzak.
I was feeling a bit weary after a big day yesterday, and the run certainly turned out this way. I just jogged the hills, and sat safely in the pack for the river run. I was pleased when we got to the end, as I was not enjoying it much today.

Running long 1:52:30 [2] 18.5 km (6:05 / km)

OA Conference Long Run - up, down and around Black Mountain several times. A large and quality field for the run including Blair, Andy, Eric, Jules, Rob W, Ben, Kerrin, John Toomey and Dave.
I don't quite know where most of the run went, so I'll have to download my GPS and check out the route on Google Earth.
At one point on the steepest slope of the mountain we searched for the "Al Jones track extension" but failed and ran slowly on the mountain side for about 10 minutes. It seems that we climbed about 5 contours too high. We did get great views of the lake though.
Later we were getting a bit thirsty, so we headed for the summit as apparently there was a tap there. There was, but I don't know if it was really worth the climb just for a drink.
Another highlight was running the famous "circumcism track"!
I finished the run back to ANU with Eric and Blair for a well deserved breakfast prior to day 2 of the conference.

Note

I've now experienced my first OA Conference. Overall it was a reasonably useful weekend. If I was running it, there are some things that I may do differently, but we didn't get bogged down in too many details very often.

I appreciated Ian Dodd's attempt to stimulate the workshops and work towards some outcomes. It is good to see people using initiative to seek improvements, rather than just do things they way that they have always been done.

That seemed to be the theme that I got out of this conference. There certainly has been good work done in past years, but if we just continue to do the same things that we have always done we will not thrive. New thinking, prioritising our efforts and working together towards out strategic objectives should be our focus.
