Note

I had entered a Pedometer competition at work this month. The prize for the most steps was a 12 month membership to the gym next door.
As I do a lot more exercise than the ordinary office worker, I thought this could be an easy win.
After the weekend I had clocked up over 53,000 steps in 2 days. Noting that the pedometer only goes to 99,999 I wondered how this would be handled. When I asked about it the marketing team determined that too many people would exceed the limit on the pedometers, so the prize will now be a random draw.
As a result, my pedometer has made one last step - straight to the bin.

I forgot my work shoes, so I had to return home. Luckily I remembered before I had gone too far.

Yarra Bend golf course run.
I felt that my knee was beginning to feel normal, and as it is getting stronger, I don't seem to be favouring one side.

6 x 3mins at 3/4 pace at the Tan.
I jogged along at the back of the pack, and quickly lost them into the distance. After a minute rest, we back tracked, so I had some company at the end of each even rep.
My legs felt quite good, but my lungs struggled a bit - not having done any workouts like this since early July.

Note

Are NZ school kids really that much better than Australians?
Allowing the NZ team to run in the Australian schools champs seems to be helping NZ orienteering, but I’m wondering if it is helping our Australian juniors as much?

Very slow Tour de Clifton Hill with the boys on bikes.
Essentially this was a series of approx 5 x 2km jogs, with a few minutes rest in between.
Stage 1 - Home to Melbourne Bicycle Centre via Edinburgh Gardens.
Rest 1 - brakes fixed, new bell for Mason, new bike gloves for Torren
Stage 2 - MBC to Bakers Delight, Clifton Hill
Rest 2 - Playground stop at Darling Gardens
Stage 3 - Darling Gardens to Quarries Park
Rest 3 - Playground stop at Quarries Park
Stage 4 - Quarries Park to Collingwood Athletics Track
Rest 4 - Track session for the boys. 100m, long jump, 200m
Stage 5 - Aths track to home

I was offered 1 adult and 1 child ticket for the Hawks v Crows game this afternoon. We spent much of the ride discussing which of the 2 boys most wanted to go to the football.
Initially they both wanted to go, even though I said it was almost certain that the Crows would lose. I then offered access to my iPad for whoever stayed home. This backfired, as they both then wanted to stay home.
Finally Mason decided that he would come. Torren watched on TV with Anne at home.
The game was fantastic. I didn't think that we could really win until we hit the lead in the last quarter, but unfortuately that only lasted 20 seconds. It was a deflating end after such a brave effort. I'm very proud of the team to finish 3rd after 14th last year. Hopefully there is more improvement to come, although that is no guarantee in this competition. That is the most disappointing part of a preliminary final loss - it takes 12 months of hard work to get back there and who knows what may happen over that period of time.

Friday Fitzroy Flogs
A nice easy run with Jim Berrington through Melbourne Park, Yarra Park and Fitztroy Gardens.
Although I was very conservative, my knee was very good.

I am very excited to see a new footbridge being built between the Melbourne Park Tennis Centre extensions and AAMI Park. This has the potential to create a brilliant Urban Sprint Orienteering area including AAMI Park, Melbourne Park and Yarra Park, including a number of elevated walkways and passages underneath.
