Orienteering race 42:34 [3] 4.85 km (8:47 / km)
shoes: VJ bold

British Long - Brown Clee
Everything was just so awful. The first control i managed to mess up even though it was easy. I didn't mess up the next one but I didn't do it very well. After number 6 it got better. I'm amazed I wasn't that low down on the results- maybe everyone else just had a bad run too.

Orienteering 22:15 [2] 2.21 km (10:04 / km)
shoes: VJ bold

Lindsey King's training in Middleton Woods. The exercise was putting controls out and I went out with Lucy. We took it in turns to navigate then decided together where the control should go. I think sometimes it was useful just to see how she orienteered. I thought it was good training- some were quite easy but some were harder.

Orienteering 1:17:50 [2] 8.81 km (8:50 / km)
shoes: VJ bold

Started off shadowing some younger juniors. Euan Tryner is a bit fast for me usually, but especially when my legs didn't seem to be working. I'm not really sure why they weren't working but they started really hurting on the short walk to another start but got better as I ran so at the next start I was actually a lot better.
Nev talked to us about compass work. Suggested a thumb compass or base plate used in that way (like me and my dad do) is a rough bearing, but I find it just as accurate but with less time to take it. He said he just follows basic directions like North as a needle but I can't see that working for me because I don't see how it gets you anywhere really.

Orienteering 21:30 [3] 2.1 km (10:14 / km)
shoes: VJ bold

Lindsey King's training on the side of Ilkley Moor . It was mostly locating the control within or near the control circle based on he description. Some of the actual orienteering was quite easy, but I did learn what a few descriptions actually meant.
It ended up a really nice day so it was a really nice opportunity to run.

Mulgrave Woods for Northern Champs
6th and not northern champ even though Rosie wasn't there...
Everything was just... okay. Or bad.
Nothing went very well.

Orienteering 46:46 [3] 5.5 km (8:30 / km)
shoes: VJ bold

Another permanent training but at Leriosa this time. Very runnable and it was actually warm and sunny too which made it really nice. The woods weren't hard but the transition onto the open dunes was. Once I found the first control in it and knew where I was I was fine though. The dunes were pretty technical and it was good training.

Orienteering 59:54 [3] 6.0 km (9:59 / km)

Training near the Atlantic coast of Portugal. It was a really nice forest, although it had a fair bit of spiky undergrowth. The training maps were provided by the Portuguese club and I thought it was good orienteering which I found difficult.
Even though there was a lot of climb it didn't tire me out loads- but I was going pretty slowly. I don't think I would've known I was at the control site without the pieces of tape (it was sort of a permanant course), but oh well I found them.
