Cycling (Spin bike) 1:00:00 [2]

Easy turnover of the legs, very low resistance, just did one track seated one track standing. Feeling a bit lethargic but I think that's a reflection of my poor eating yesterday, and I'm trying to correct that today.

Orienteering (Ightham) 55:07 [2] 5.42 km (10:10 / km) +155m 8:54 / km

Did most of an old blue course on the Ightham map today to get some more practise orienteering and looking at a map. (Saxons told me which parts of the map were ok for training on). We have been cycling on the roads that run through the map so I knew the terrain was still quite runnable and not covered with too much bramble and bracken. I was very disciplined for the first third of the course, planning my route, simplifying it down, talking myself through what I was doing, but then I started to get complacent and by the last few controls I was just rushing when I should have been taking more considered routes. All a very good lesson for next week. Chest strap didn't work which is a bit annoying.

Note

Post O training I did 30min easy spin, 20min stretching, 10mins foam rolling. Seemed to work after O on Wednesday as I had no soreness or stiffness at all.

Orienteering race (Army O, Long Valley SE) 1:18:55 [3] 8.36 km (9:26 / km) +180m 8:31 / km
ahr:151 max:173

Fantastic to go orienteering again after 2.5mths off!! Of course it showed in my sloppy run - I couldn't find most of the controls, didn't plan most of the legs, didn't look at my compass or control descriptions once, and sung a Coldplay song the whole way around ("X&Y"). Left calf is troubling - kept "grabbing" out there so I was forced to plod to manage that, especially on the downhills, but plod I did the whole way, only stopping when I couldn't find the controls. Which was often. Somewhat distracted when a bull decided that right as I went past him was the appropriate time to mount a cow next to me. Nice.

Was neat to wear my HR strap too, & to see I reached my theoretical maximum (shuffling up the 25% gradient 100m hill after #12. Self awarded pat on the back for shuffling up that. Then losing 5mins on the next control. Although in my defense, everyone said it was appallingly mapped in there).

Upshot is, I think I need more practice pre Mondays race.

Note

I did a very easy 30 min spin this afternoon followed by 20 mins of stretching and 10 mins of foam rolling. Hopefully this will stop any sore/stiffness from today's orienteering.

Cycling (Spin bike) 1:15:00 [3]

Still not feeling right, struggled again today.

Did a 5k walk earlier, and could feel the calf on the downhills. Also still hurts to walk on for a while when first standing. As does the achilles.
