Was meant to be 5 hour SE.

After having the kids at Coed Y Brenin yesterday Winter started coughing all the way home....by the time she went to bed it was back to barking like a dog and struggling to sleep so I slept on the floor next to her and didn't get much sleep.

I couldn't go too far away from home incase she needed more than just resting at home and I just felt exhausted so took the dog for a few easy hours.

The wind didn't help much and was bloody freezing hard work so three hours was the best I could be bothered with.

Walked most of the hills but felt fine running with just some tiredness from Saturday.

Last night was much better sleep wise so OK today. (Monday)

GOLDRUSH TRAIL

Went as well as could be expected I think after some bigger weeks training

Its always a few KM uphill from the start at CYB so gives you a chance to see where you/everyone is at if you are racing.

I was in the first group of four without issue and when we hit the first technical bit (uphill) I put about 10m in to them which was promising.

Then Alun Williams joined me on the first flat section (knows you from New Zealand days and had a good chat after)

We spoke briefly before he drifted off easily which was cool, he is faster than me.

I could hear another two breathing now so back in a group before a longish technical downhill , I say technical ....its not really especially with the trails being bone dry but again I put some distance in to them and hit the next flat bit still second..

From there I already knew my legs were not too fresh.

Its a long downhill on fire road and the guys around me were just too fast on the nice dry trails.

I got to the bottom in fourth but all bunched up.

Again there is an uphill section that is usually muddy but bone dry today...I did move back to second but it was a real push to the point I nearly had to fell walk which I don't think I have ever done there in a CYB race.

Alun was gone and now on the road section my legs just didn't have the energy needed to stay ahead of a few of the guys.

There is a long downhill at 5 mile with lots of twists and turns so with some aggressive cornering I hit the bottom in third passing two.

4km left on fire road to the finish and I just didn't have the minerals to run hard to the finish.

Finished in 6th over 3 minutes behind Alun and top 4 went under the hour so I lost quite a bit in those last few KM.

Not a bad time for me though on that course I think and no issues with recovery after or the next morning.

Easy run with the dog - slipped on the boggy ground and bashed my elbow on a rock....black with wet mud all down one side and arm wouldn't stop bleeding so just got in the stream to clean up and went home - no harm done

1.5 x up Yr Aran

Really good morning out I think...

Chose shitty lines and it the wind was pretty sketchy in the knee high snow for the last 100m so made it a good test while it was bright and sunny at the bottom...

My ankles were tested at times and everything felt pretty strong.

Fuelled from the start and no issue as had the car at the bottom for water change...

Would do that session again or maybe push on over the range maybe but there is not much water then.

Recovered well - no issues
