Orienteering 37:30 [4] 5.85 km (6:25 / km)

Venla 3rd leg. A lot of fun. Legs were surprisingly ok and the excitement helped to suppress the headache. Steady to the first one then ramped it up a bit and was flowing though the controls well. Really started to push it on the last few controls from spectator to the finish because we were neck and neck with SHUOC. Overall I really enjoyed it and did surprisingly well for myself all things considering at the moment :)
However the next 12 hours that followed were not so pretty. Head was getting really painful an hour or so after the race and I started to feel really dizzy. Thought it could be something to do with my iron or perhaps I had dehydration or heat exhaustion as I’d been out in the sun a lot of the day. So anyway I started to drink a bit more water, which did help with the head for a while. Next thing I know my vision starts to go blurry and I feel so weak I can’t stand up. We decided I should get some help so Dan carried me to first aid, who sent me to sleep and rushed me to hospital. I can’t remember a lot from that point except I was in a lot of pain, everything was so bright, I was shaking a lot, vomiting and my face swelled up like a bitch. I fully woke up in hospital and was put on a drip and had lots of injections (one somewhere not so savoury.) It turns out my sodium levels were very low after drinking too much water throughout the day. Well then. It’s a shame the symptoms for heat exhaustion are similar. At the hospital I wasn’t in a good state, and Rona stayed with me until 1am, which was very appreciated x Not only did she put me into my lovely hospital pyjamas, she stayed. Was sad when she left, and for me the night proceeded to go downhill. I couldn’t stop shaking and I continued to throw up. Body felt so weak, my head was pounding and I couldn’t see straight. It was a long night in the end but I made it out the other side and left the hospital around 12:30 the next day feeling a lot better, if not still a bit shaky and woith no sleep. Overall a mixed experience of Jukola weekend.
