Running 10:49 [2] 1.38 km (7:50 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold 7

Pörövaara, 4,3km course, planned by Mari Väänänen.

Jog from the car to the start with my dad. He did this shorter course already yesterday evening so was doing a longer course today.

Orienteering 1:10:23 [3] ***** 5.24 km (13:26 / km)
spiked:5/12c shoes: VJ Bold 7

I think I did pretty well.
Long legs 3-4, 8-9 and 10-11 I think pretty good plans and executed well. Especially 10-11 was kinda tricky and not a lot of help but I did great!

Also controls 4-8 were hill side controls but I didn't have a lot of trouble with them.

Small hesitations to almost all controls but all inside the circle which is good for me considering the course and terrain were tricky.

All in all another pretty good day at the office. Legs were definitely tired and didn't go as fast as past two days but I had fun! And I think this weekend was kinda promising considering Jukola is in three weeks. Only Friday was a total disaster, all other trainings were pretty good. I think I'll live to see midsummer! Although fitness is definitely not where it should be but I'll just take my time.

Running 9:08 [2] 0.98 km (9:19 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold 7

Second training!
Murhakallio, O-intervals, course planned by TG!
I skipped one of the four intervals (controls 8-11).

Jog to the start giving my dad some time again.

Orienteering 33:56 [4] ***** 2.3 km (14:45 / km)
spiked:2/3c shoes: VJ Bold 7

First interval.

Started off with a long leg. I went a bit left from the line trying to avoid hills. I'm actually pretty happy with how I did. I had planned going more straight and just avoiding the hills. Made a mistake with the first hill and ended up going more left than planned but I noticed it fast and made a fast decision to stick with my new route then. Not too bad!

Saw my dad at no 2, he had had a lot of trouble!!!

To 3 I think my routechoice was pretty good and well executed again. Maybe couldve gone around the second hill as well but it wasn't too bad.

Running 3:40 [2] 0.16 km (22:55 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold 7

Jog to the start of the second interval.

Orienteering 27:23 [4] ***** 1.89 km (14:29 / km)
4c shoes: VJ Bold 7

Second interval.

This went pretty well!
To the second control went a bit too far but realised and corrected it quite fast. And to the last one I started to hesitate a bit too early.

Here I saw three extra controls but I was a lot more aware of the map and where I was on it than yesterda. So didn't have any trouble with these, I could confidently just use them to figure out where I was!

Running 4:11 [2] 0.32 km (13:04 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold 7

Jog to the last start. Decided to skip one interval here since I think I mightve died!

Orienteering 25:46 [4] ***** 2.2 km (11:43 / km)
spiked:2/4c shoes: VJ Bold 7

Third interval.

Had trouble with the first two, both ended up wandering a small bit inside the circle.

2-3 and 3-4 were longish legs and I'm happy with both! Avoided too much climb and executed pretty well I think!

Running 1:19 [2] 0.17 km (7:45 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold 7

Jog back to the car.

Today was a lot better than yesterday even though I think the course was just as difficult or even more difficult!
I think I'm a lot better with bigger features like today as opposed to the hill side controls like yesterday. No big mistakes today and all the time had a pretty good idea where I was and where I was going.
2 PM

Running 7:28 [2] 0.97 km (7:42 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold 7

Vallisärkkä O-intervals again, last two intervals we didn't do on Friday!

Jog from the car to the start.

Orienteering 11:26 [4] *** 1.37 km (8:21 / km)
spiked:3/4c shoes: VJ Bold 7

First interval.

Nothing too tricky. This part of the map was clearly easier both technically and for running.

Trouble to the first one since left the path too early but corrected pretty fast.

Running 3:15 [2] 1.17 km (2:47 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold 7

Jog to the second start.

Orienteering 11:31 [4] *** 1.17 km (9:51 / km)
spiked:1/3c shoes: VJ Bold 7

Second interval.

Again easy but more trouble here.

To the first one I was expecting to go over a small hill and then find the control in a depression. Turns out the hill was actually a depression as well so got confused.

To the last control just made a bad route choice trying to cut a corner and go straight through green. Wouldve been faster to go around.

Running 40 [2] 0.07 km (9:31 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold 7

Jog back to the car.

Legs tired but this was fun!

Training weekend for Joensuu-Jukola like a pro!!!

Drove to Joensuu, checked in our accommodation and headed for the first training!

Vallisärkkä map, O-intervals, course planned by Jan Procházka!

Parked the car and bit of a warm up giving my dad about 10min head start.

Orienteering 16:44 [4] ***** 1.17 km (14:18 / km)
spiked:1/3c shoes: VJ Bold 7

First interval.
First I wrote that the first two controls were easyish. Then did my QR.... Looks like I didn't actually even find no 2 but found a control one depression earlier... I did think the distance from the first control seemed weirdly short!!!! But didn't even consider that I might be in the wrong depression. The controls didn't have codes and I didn't realise that there are extra controls in the forest.

The last one was a boulder in green, had trouble with this. Circled really close to the control for a while before finally finding it.

Running 4:07 [2] 0.27 km (15:15 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold 7

Jogged from the finish of the first interval to the start of the second.

Orienteering 43:44 [4] ***** 2.84 km (15:24 / km)
spiked:1/5c shoes: VJ Bold 7

Second interval.

All the controls were on Karhuvaara so pretty much what Jukola at Harpatinvaara will be. So tricky!! Hill controls aren't my thing clearly.
A LOT of trouble to the first control. I was really close to the control first, couldn't see it, doubted myself and went further, then came back and confusion again before finally spotting the control..
Then basically the same thing with the last control!

Also judging from QR again looks like I didn't visit no 4 at all.. Found a control, it was a boulder, didn't even question it.

The view from the top of the vaara was awesome though! (Yes I had time to pay attention to it)

Running 2:37 [2] 0.2 km (13:05 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold 7

To the last start.

Orienteering 12:02 [4] ***** 1.15 km (10:28 / km)
spiked:1/3c shoes: VJ Bold 7

The last interval.

Again it looks like I didn't find the first control. I definitely found a control but it looks like it wasn't the right one.. My GPS track goes straight past the actual control as well but I don't remember seeing it..

Kinda tricky leg 2-3, along the side of the hill but I think I did it okay. Just bailed too early since didn't trust myself again.

Running 8:53 [2] 1.24 km (7:10 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold 7

Jog back to the car.

Not a great day at the office.
Lots of mistakes even if not counting the ones I made because I didn't realise there were extra controls in the forest.

Looks like especially controls on the side of the hills are tricky for me. Need to be careful at Jukola!!

Orienteering 1:12:47 [3] *** 7.88 km (9:14 / km)
spiked:10/16c shoes: VJ Bold 7

LS event in Tapanila, A-course, 6,2km.

3-4 decided to take a path option to avoid marsh and to play it safe. I don't think it was the worst option here and found the control easy.

At 10 I again made the mistake of following someone although originally I was headed straight to the control..

12-13 I was confused with the path bends and almost left the path way too early. Another mistake closer to the control when I went too much left when my goal was to go straight.

14-15 I already had decided I'd try going straight and it turned out to be easier than originally planned because of pretty clear veg change I could just follow. Definitely need to remember to use them more from now on!

Then I guess I was getting too confident because screwed 15-16 completely. Left the control 90 degrees wrong way because I was holding my map somehow wrong.

And then had trouble finding the finish punch.

Not a great run considering Jukola is in a month. Felt really tired going up the hills which are nothing compared to Harpatinvaara.... Made the mistake of following someone else which I can't do at Jukola or I'll just end up running around the forest aimlessly following all the people there. And somehow had lots of trouble with folding my map. More than once almost read the map wrong because of this and sometimes noticed I'm running a leg and I can't even find the leg on my map since I folded the map funny in my hand. Which isn't great considering this map was roughly 1/4 of the size of the Jukola map..

Looking at my pace it's not too slow though, 11,77min/km.
