Python Rogaine with Kevin as Topo the Mountain

Drove over to the race venue the morning before the event. We checked in, prepped our gear and then received maps at 11:00 a.m. It seemed clearable, so we planned a route that hit all the CPs. Race started at noon. It was hot - mid-80's and humid. We took off and were soon on our own. It had been raining prior to the race and the woods were pretty slick. Especially the steep gullies/reentrants near streams. There was lots of slipping and sliding. We cruised through the first section of the course and were close to our time estimates. Kept up a trot on the long stretch of road down to the corn maze. Kevin took over navigation for the corn maze and nailed all 3 controls. We then continued the long road slog up to the W section of the course. Saw Tom and Tim on our way to 41. Kevin started to feel not great around here, so we slowed the pace and gave him water and snacks. I bobbled 53. Came in too high and overshot slightly. Saw the private property signs and corrected. Kevin was still overheating, so once we got to the road I took his pack and he took his shirt off. That seemed to help and after the next section we were able to jog on the road headed back to the E side of the map. My biggest mistake was on 44. We climbed the broad hill W of the saddle and spent some time wandering. Kevin was able to figure out where we were. At this point we decided to drop 66 since we were not moving all that quickly in the woods. Kevin was still feeling crummy, so I told him we could either just head back to the finish or pick up the rest of the CPs along the way. He pulled it together and we made good time through the rest of the course. It got dark around 56. We trotted along the trails/roads to hit 45, 37 and then head to the finish. Ended up dropping 2 CPs - 66 and 38. Finished 2nd OA. Team Kiwi cleared the course with 5 min to spare. Fun course!

Shaking out the legs. Wasn't intending to take this much of an easy week, but work was crazy and rest seemed more important.
