Ski-O at Laurel Ridge - Long

Went out on the long course first. It was chilly when we arrived (5 F), but the sun was shining and there was no wind so it actually felt pretty nice. Wore my map case around my neck, started with a thumb compass and had the punch card in my pocket (old school!). It was a bit of a struggle to do everything and ski, but I had it down after a few controls. Ended up sticking my thumb compass in my pocket shortly after I started as I was afraid it was going to fall off my glove.

Caught Kevin at 3 where he was trying to unstick his coat zipper. No navigation errors, it was all on trails. Lots of other people out skiing, although not many orienteering. I had fun, but definitely prefer regular orienteering :)

Forgot to start my watch, so I added a few minutes to my time.

Ski-O at Laurel Ridge - Short

Went back out to do the short course. By now I was much more efficient at reading the map in the case while moving and at punching the punch card while wearing gloves. Would be neat to try ski-o with a map board and e-punch, but this was a fun first attempt. Legs/arms were pretty tired by the end.
12 PM

XC Ski - Classic 1:33:33 [3] 6.0 mi (15:36 / mi) +219m 14:00 / mi

Took a lunch break in the nice heated lodge and then headed back out to do the orange loop. It had warmed up to 24 F and turned into a really nice day. I enjoyed the loop, it was farther out from the lodge so there weren't that many people. Legs were beat by the end. Overall, I was pretty impressed with Laurel Ridge. I would definitely go back to go xc skiing every once and a while.
