Note

No snow, so I wasn't sure what to expect course-wise for the ski-O. I thought it might just be lots of trail running - i.e. ski-O course on foot, but Gary had some great orienteering courses instead. Vegetation was thin compared to summer and the swampy areas were frozen, so we got into places where we might not go in warm weather.
5-6 I kept running into dense vegetation that slowed me down a lot. I tried to go around the small pond to the east, but couldn't seem to find an efficient route up to the ridge.
8-9 tiptoed/skated across the swamp and only got my foot damp once, but I went to the wrong knoll looking for the control and then when I found the correct knoll and boulder, the flag was gone. I saw the "do not remove" sticker, which had been removed from the flag and was at the boulder. Looked around for a minute or two and found the plastic stake, but no flag. I put the stake by the boulder and then spotted the blue SI box past the boulder in the other direction. Assembled box onto stake and leaned it against the boulder. I was glad to have found the SI box, but upset that someone apparently sabotaged a control. It probably cost me a minute or so, but I'm guessing most runners before me spent extra time on this, too, before moving on.
13-14 I liked my route choice, which avoided some climb by following the reentrant, but then I ran all the way around the wrong building before finding the control on the adjacent building. Penalty lap for not reading the clue carefully.
14-15 Jason whooshed past me and I felt motivated to run really fast.
15-16 Jason disappeared from sight and I ran to the wrong path junction and saw him coming back down the hill. A tricky "easy" control!
