Rogaine 11:55:28 [3] *** 32.5 mi (22:01 / mi) +1150m 19:50 / mi
65c shoes: Salomon Speed Cross 4

76 controls worth a total of 2560! 30 ten pointers were on a manual punch card, and then 46 more on an SI stick.

We only had an hour to plan, so Syd put me in charge since I tend to plan much faster (basically connect the dots with no regard to route choice). It seemed almost clearable, so we tried to focus on end game strategy, and decided to leave the loop of 10 pointers near the end for last (12 ten pointers in a ~3 mile loop! thats like 2 controls elsewhere!). Took a counter clockwise route that started with a fairly far away control that meant we were on our own from the start, which suites us just fine. We ended up going back and forth with olga, a couple from ROC, and a threesome for much of the day, but saw few people otherwise.

Our goal was 6 controls and hour, which we were on pace with until about hour 8, where it took a nose dive. My legs started really hurting around hour 6, along with a big toe that I am sure is going to become another black toenail (just finished healing from Racoongaine!!). Then Syd's feet started bothering her, so our pace got quite slow. My legs perked back up for the last 2 hours, probably due to our slower pace. I'm not sure what else either of us could have done, we were eating and drinking well, lubing our feet, etc. This ultimately meant we ended up dropping the ring of 10 pointers around the start at the end, but got everything worth more than 10! The finish area was home to haunted hay rides, so we had a very interesting and disorienting experience getting back to the finish with music, psychedelic halloween decorations, and kids in costumes howling.

The event was excellently organized, the map was great (basically an O map!), control placement was right on for all but 1 control that we found, the hills werent killer (although they were steep). Ended up coming in first team and 3rd overall (2 solo male cleared it) with 65/76 controls and 2450/2560 points.

Rogaine firsts:
-Actually making it the full 12 hours (dropped out of sleepy hollow after 10 due to knee problems)
- 3 points in a corn maize!
