Running long 1:30:10 [3] 12.73 km (7:05 / km) +113m 6:47 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8

Gradually extending my long run. Added 2 ks. Will do the same next week as well. Caution borne of serial injury. Meanwhile Julie jumped from 15 to 20k. She seems to be more resiliant than I fear I have become.

Run was into the Sparrow Hawk block. Trying to join the areas of bush in a single run has given me the insight that this region is three sprint maps rather than one 10k map.

Note

Spent the afternoon exploring potential new terrain in Central Goldfields shire. First area was a true dud. Second area I had briefly visited before. Today it was upgraded from local sprint to potential National Middle status. The photos of the sluice erosion give a good indication, but the gravel scrape terrain doesn't photograph well.

MTB (Not O) 1:05:00 [3]

In my school years I rode home on an old girlie bike struggling to keep up with my mate who rode a road bike. His was the only roadie anyone at school had ever seen. Ten gears! And his sporting idols were not footie players, but Tour de France riders. He could name all the winners of the event. He was a generation ahead of his time. So 40+ years later I take my first ever ride on a roadie, courtesy of Evan. I felt inspired to imagine myself as a Tour de France rider climbing Bendigo's own Mont Ventoux... One Tree Hill. I imagined feeling the Edgar (EPO) coursing through my veins, the BB waiting at the end of the ride. Yes, I have just finished Tyler Hamilton's book. I look back on all those years watching the tour and think... what a bloody joke that was. Surely you knew Mr Ligget?
The reasons to do this routine are to keep a smile on spouses face and to give the legs a break from the running.

Note

End of Year note.
1250k of running this year. That is half of the load I was achieving a decade ago. I could say it was due to a greater frequency of injury, but I suspect that greater frequency is a function of increasing years. I'd like to think 2000 was possible again next year, but my guess is that 1500 would be as much as I could hope for.
9 AM

Running warm up/down 29:46 [3] 5.01 km (5:56 / km) +33m 5:45 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8

Up the creek for 5 k.
10 AM

Back, core and achilles 30:00 [1]

Running tempo 25:50 [4] 5.0 km (5:10 / km) +10m 5:07 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8

Ran harder on the way back. Salutory lesson. 5k is too much warm up.

Running 1:12:13 [3] 10.5 km (6:53 / km) +90m 6:36 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8

The new long skraplands again. A very good run for starting in urban Bendigo. Its a little over 10 kilometres, mostly in gold mining terrain and off roads. Dropped more than seven minutes from the time last week. Won't achieve that improvement again.
