Real Orienteering race (Longlea) 37:38 [4] *** 5.4 km (6:58 / km)
spiked:8/9c shoes: Brookes 10

Mass start for the relay that isn't a relay. Part of the attraction was a run on the vague Longlea map not visited for half a decade. Every course here is pretty much the same speed. It was a chance to see how much I have slowed.. The answer is 30 seconds a kilometre give or take. This was as I expected. I gave myself 7 minutes a k as a speed to match and just managed to slip inside this.

8 AM

MTB (Not O) 18:15 [4]

Commute to work. Seems a fast morning ride means a slow lunchtime run.
1 PM

Running warm up/down 43:50 [2] 7.5 km (5:51 / km)
shoes: Innov-8

What a struggle.
6 PM

MTB (Not O) 23:00 [3]

Commute home into a storm of sorts. Started with blue skies but the black ahead felt at one stage like hail on the face. Arrived soggy and cold. Warm shower wonderful.

6 PM

Running 53:00 [3] 8.9 km (5:57 / km) +100m 5:38 / km
shoes: Innov-8

Evening run with Jools. First 15 minutes I struggled to keep up. Last 15 minutes it was the other way around.

MTB (Not O) 19:45 [4]

Morning commute with added effort.
1 PM

Running 36:00 [2] 6.6 km (5:27 / km) +45m 5:16 / km
shoes: Innov-8

Slowish run around White Hills wastelands.
Peaked at second on the noisy logs and now into the decline.
5 PM

MTB (Not O) 33:15 [3]

Commute home the long way

8 AM

MTB (Not O) 21:30 [3]

The commute.
1 PM

Running 38:24 [3] 6.8 km (5:39 / km) +35m 5:30 / km
shoes: Innov-8

Epsom Creek. Windy.
I think its going to be one of those days with a headwind in the morning and coming home. The wind changes don't seem to break the other way.
6 PM

MTB (Not O) 35:00 [3]

The long way home. Sort of.

Note

Finished drafting the University map this morning. Interesting comparisons with Crusoe - urban sprint and bush mapping intensity.
Crusoe 7 sq k for 63 hours field and 27 drafting. 6500 objects.
University .45 sq k for 23 hours in the field and 35 drafting. 3600 objects.
Bush - 9 hours per sq k field work and 5.5 per sq k drafting. 925 objects per sq k.
University - 54 hours per sq k field work and 90 per sq k drafting. 8400 objects per sq k.
Most of the time for the university map was spent on the urban section which is only half the area. This helps one appreciate the work in all those small sprint maps that tend to be seen as small jobs compared to large areas of bush mapping.
The difference is not the object intensity, but the lack of empty space between objects which requires painstaking drawing and a lot more effort into interpretation to enhance legibility. The finer scale also meant that lidar was only of limited assistance in the urban mapping.
I can't see that sprint mapping can be anything other than a voluntary activity outside national carnivals.
