Real Orienteering (Jim Crow) 1:09:25 [3] 8.18 km (8:29 / km) +260m 7:19 / km
shoes: Saucony Xodus 9.5

6.1 straight line.
State Series at Jim Crow. Similar climb to yesterday, but slower running with more litter on the forest floor. Made two errors, losing about 75 seconds in total. The main time loss was fitness. The course was a curates egg. Good in parts. Six legs (half) had clear route choice options and I didn't get them all correct. Leg 3 was the best. Julie and I didn't spot the best choice till our post-mortem over lunch in Daylesford. Like yesterday, that sort of a discovery is a sign of good course setting. Leg 11 offered a choice of straight and up or long and round. I chose up because the control description on the map unfortunately obscured part of the longer route choice. I can understand how that could happen, and wonder if I have done that myself. A few simple changes would have made an excellent course. Shifting control 7 a little south would have opened up one or two other routes without making any impact on the following leg which was a pot-boiler that could have easily been removed from the course. If the second last control had been shifted a little down the hill, it would have transformed the leg into the control by opening up route choices, and shortened the leg to the last control which was never going to be anything but ho-hum, just as it is on most courses.

Real Orienteering race (Sedgwick) 1:10:12 [3] *** 9.19 km (7:38 / km) +270m 6:40 / km
spiked:8/8c shoes: Nike Trail

Wettish day on Sedgwick. It was a bit like looking at a pool before jumping in. Once you started running it was reasonably enjoyable. Excellent courses set by Cat Creely. It was clear she had thought about every leg. Two legs had route choices I didn't detect while running. Only saw them when they were pointed out later. That doesn't happen nearly enough these days. Other than that, I spiked all controls. This indicates its about time I started running a little harder.

Running warm up/down 20:20 [2] 3.4 km (5:59 / km) +30m 5:44 / km
shoes: Asics Trail

Just a slow jog to keep back loose. Used the looming weekend as an excuse to cut the run very short. A house inspection had a bit to do with that as well.

Feeling good. On top at last.

Running 36:27 [3] 6.8 km (5:22 / km) +45m 5:11 / km

Running 30:00 [3] 5.2 km (5:46 / km) +130m 5:08 / km
shoes: Asics Trail

Welsford 'Hill' area. Hill being a relative concept, much like 'running fast'.
Another try at consecutive days of running. Will the virus get me tomorrow?

Running 38:15 [3] 6.8 km (5:37 / km) +45m 5:27 / km
shoes: Asics Trail

Another benign run on a pleasant sunny day. At the end I wasn't coughing, bleeding or wobbling, so I must be getting on top of the virus.

Note
(sick)

Another minor viral relapse. Its in the background and two days of running seems to bring it back.
