Real Orienteering race (Kookaburra Rises) 1:40:00 [3] *** 12.48 km (8:01 / km) +420m 6:52 / km
ahr:134 max:156 spiked:12/15c shoes: La di da's

Two errors due to lack of concentration in the event, one error due to lack of concentration whilst drawing the course on the map.
Felt slow and sore after yesterdays event.

Real Orienteering race (Mandurang) 1:01:00 [3] *** 8.9 km (6:51 / km) +265m 5:58 / km
spiked:12/14c shoes: La di da's

Only very minor errors in the circle. Found it hard to see the control flags due to trees at times. Felt tired towards the end, showing the fall off in long training runs over the past month. Still trying to work out how I ran 800 metres further than Jymbo.

Running tempo 19:46 [4] 4.3 km (4:36 / km) +35m 4:25 / km
shoes: La di da's

This was the fast run for the week. More than a minute slower than last week. Thats breaking the trend. In my defence:
1 It was raining and cold and I wanted it over quickly, so no warm up.
2 Felt it necessary to listen to the country hour whilst running. It was being broadcast from the shores of Lake Alexandrina, where irrigation politics was in its usual evidence.
1. We are badly done by.
2. No-one understands or cares about our problem.
3. We have no interest in hearing about problems elsewhere.
4. Its someone else's fault upstream (or downstream or in Canberra or in Melbourne or whatever).
Its not that the Lake people are different. Listen to our own 'Plug the Pipe' group. Listen to Danny whatshisname representing Mildura blockies. Read the submissions by the NSW rice growers about environmental flows. Dare I say it... listen to Paul and the others representing the environment. Some of thes epeople do actually understand the issues, but they dare not be fully open with their constituency or they won't have a constituency. Same in Federal Parliament. My respect for Penny Wong has risen. I have lost respect for Xenophon. None for Shep rep Sharmane.
It was hard to concentrate on pushing hard whilst listening..

Running warm up/down 37:00 [2] 6.0 km (6:10 / km) +60m 5:52 / km
shoes: Brooks Thingummyjigs

Felt really flat. Cut the planned run short. Despite being an early morning run (summer on the way already?) I think the real reason was last nights hills.

Running warm up/down 11:11 [2] 1.83 km (6:07 / km) +40m 5:31 / km
shoes: Brooks Thingummyjigs

Running hills 33:00 [4] 5.61 km (5:53 / km) +550m 3:57 / km
shoes: Brooks Thingummyjigs

Ten by Wattle Street hill. Same height as Short, but a steadier climb over a slightly longer distance.

Note

Its been a while since I took four days off training. This wasn't planned. It was the inevitable outcome of organising the orientShow event and some work trips that had me getting back from Melbourne later than usual.
