Walking 3:35:00 [3] 14.1 km (15:15 / km) +530m 12:50 / km
shoes: Brooks Thingummyjigs

Back at it the next day. Went into the tough part of the map. The area is clearly a rain shadow, so it was generally dry and also out of the wind in the deep gullies. Bitterly cold on top though. Some very impressive places fro control sites and sometimes some challenging navigation. I ran when I could which wasn't often. Hint for the southern end of the map. There are some controls at the apex of the spurs heading east and down to the plains in the south of the map. Very interesting travelling out along the spurs. But think twice before climbing from below.
In review I note covering 31.4 k in a bit over seven hours in the walking phase. Given the steepness, this isn't much off my competition 6 hour rogaine pace. Rest day required.

Running long 1:13:00 [2] 8.2 km (8:54 / km) +140m 8:12 / km

Beginning the task of checking controls for the Brisbane Ranges rogaine. This was on top where it was flat and fast.

Walking 3:35:00 [3] 17.35 km (12:24 / km) +600m 10:34 / km
shoes: Brooks Thingummyjigs

And this was where it got steep. Still, open country, scenery in places and at times challenging navigation. I have to admit to being save by the GPS. Choose to descend the spur to the most westerly of the controls at the north of the map. On the other hand, its a grunt to get back up to the next upper control at the north of the map. Pretty impressive spot though... after I found it.

Running 29:19 [3] 5.67 km (5:10 / km) +25m 5:04 / km
shoes: Brooks Thingummyjigs

Note

After two weeks of shirking, I kept to the program this week. Not looking forward to a weekend of checking rogaine controls in the Brisbane Ranges. Sounds like it would be more fun at home in front of the heater.
