Running long 1:31:00 [2] 12.8 km (7:07 / km) +100m 6:51 / km
shoes: Brooks Thingummyjigs

Run around Blackjack Gully with Jools and with the GPS logging. Maybe I can use the track to join Ian Johnsons 5 individual and idiosyncratically scaled maps into one.
Then off to run through Campbell's Creek State Forest to start logging tracks there in preparation for a mapping project. Its good enough for local events. If it was as close to Melbourne as Carroll Springs, I reckon a State Champs minimum. The extra hour downgrades it to a club map.

Running warm up/down 26:00 [3] 5.0 km (5:12 / km) +45m 4:59 / km
shoes: Brooks Thingummyjigs

Extra run with Ilka once back home. Trying to catch Oxoman.
PS The new undies are great.

Running warm up/down 33:00 [3] 5.28 km (6:15 / km) +70m 5:52 / km
shoes: Columbia

Picking up controls after the increasingly successful Bendigo Novice Series. Also some warm up and warm down.

Running tempo 20:31 [5] 4.6 km (4:28 / km) +45m 4:15 / km
shoes: Columbia

After running 21 minutes dead last week on the test run, I was aiming again to be under sub 21. This time I made the target with 29 seconds to spare. Most of this time was made up in the first half of the run. Leads me to suspect that this improvement is only partly improving fitness, but also better judgement about pacing. Also possibly faster because the run was in the middle of the day rather than early morning. A rest the day before might have helped as well. Anyway, starting my eighth week of running after the knee surgery. This is the 8th time on this test, and the kilometre rate has taken a jump.
6.06 4.54 4.45 4.34 4.27 4.24 4.21 4.15
I think the medium term target is sub 20 minutes. For the first time this appears feasible to me.

Run cut short again with same issue.

Pseud-O race 32:27 [3] 5.6 km (5:48 / km) +70m 5:27 / km
shoes: Brooks Thingummyjigs

Another night, another ersatz-O. Yawn. I arrived 30 minutes after the start, thanks to a one-on-one work meeting going overtime in Melbourne. I didn't think street-O justified walking out on the departmental secretary, so I was left with 30 minutes of the event (For Melbourne readers Bendigo runs 1 hr score events on street maps). This left me with an interesting choice. I had told the organiser (Evan) that he shouldn't wait for me to collect controls. So which did I value more-- the extra 30 minutes running or the post event socialising. The latter won out, aided by soreness in a quite private location that is unlikely to be a training overuse injury. I think a trip to the doctor very soon is required.
Ilka was at the event tonight and put in an impressive run. One control short of a full set and only a minute late.

PS to Oxoman. I will look out for Coonans Hill on the schedule and come down if I can. Might even bring the pork pie hat and the violin case.

Note

Just noticed... seven days straight with running on the log. I think this is a good sign that the post operation period is drawing to a close. I don't feel any unusual muscle soreness.

Pseud-O race 47:26 [4] 8.35 km (5:41 / km) +75m 5:26 / km
shoes: Brooks Thingummyjigs

Was in Melbourne, so thought I may as well run the Street O on the set of Melbourne's gangland murders. Well, I think that is the Strathmore map. It was a rectangular street grid, much like the Kennington map. Also like Kennington it had no forest or gold mining features to redeem it. I could see it as a warm up for tomorrow's street O on Flora Hill/One Tree Hill. I tried to convince Don to advertise it as part of the Northern Series during his promotional spiel before the event, but no luck there.
Did the A course and I am very confident I did NOT choose the optimum controls. Hopped in the car straight afterwards and drove to a friend's house where w eplayed music till after midnight. Fingers sore this morning.
