Sore legs from yesterday mandated an easy day. Rode out to the big tree. Its a very old yellow box, the largest tree I know of in the Bendigo forests, and I think I know the Bendigo forests better than most (all?). I found this tree years ago while mapping White's Ruins. I was hoping that the atmospherics of the peeling bark during yesterday's rain would be still visible, so I rode with camera and tripod. Alas, 12 hours later, and the peeled bark has lost its redness, and the revealed new bark is now white rather than that ethereal white-green creamy colour. Oh well. Next year. Photo attached anyway. It takes three people at arms stretch to encircle the tree.

An unusual run... it rained the whole journey! There has been gentle rain for 24 hours. This has a number of unrelated consequences. First, the tracks are softer which my ankle welcomes. The yellow box are all shedding bark, revealing fresh white trunks that almost gleam in the wet. At the base of the trees are piles of fresh red bark. Rain means mud and that brings out the petrol heads on bikes and other sundry vehicles. A quiet run in the bush is unlikely.
As for the run, well extremely slow is the only way to describe my pace. Well over 6 minutes kilometre. The legs were still sore from yesterdays effort, so I just plodded around. At 75 minutes, on cue, the ankle joint played up like it did last Sunday.

Running tempo 21:30 [5] 4.6 km (4:40 / km) +45m 4:27 / km

Usual Friday. Usual test run. I felt I was really up against my current aerobic limit today, rather than being hampered by niggling 'come-back' muscles pains and joint aches. I don't think I can do it much faster than today's effort. I realised that running up against the threshold takes quite a bit of concentration. If the mind wanders then you stop concentrating on running faster than your body wants too. Makes for bring thoughts, as against ling runs where lots of thoughts wander through the mind.
Into the fifth week of come-back, and the paces for this run are:
6.06 4.54 4.45 4.34 4.27
Improvements from here is going to be harder and a real sign of aerobic training effect.
