Pre-Easter hubris training
Showered myself in inverse glory again. Training course on the M21E Day course at Mia Mia. I brought a copy of my map from last year, with a different course on it. Drew the new cours ein blue. Jim placed contol flags. I ran out after him. Kept coming to the site to find no flag. Started to worry about being so incompetent this close to Easter. Then noticed Troy running at right angles to me. Stopped, studied the map and realised I had been running the wrong course on the map. Things fitted well then, but I reverted to the old course a couple more times.
Ankle started to hurt like it had at the end of last weeks rogaine, so called it a day after the first loop and went mapping at Maldon. Found more detail in Peg Leg Gully. Things were going well for two hours till my concentration started waning. Twisted my ankle pretty well on a rocky mullock slope.Forced to sit for 10 minutes till the pain and pins and needles subsided. Called it a day for mapping as well and went home for ice. Met a tame white cockatoo at the car. More accurately, it scared the bejeezus out of me by landing on the roof with a thump and a squawk, less than a metre from my face. That was the highlight of the day. Things had better look up by Easter.

Real Orienteering race (One Tree Hill) 48:49 [4] *** 7.12 km (6:51 / km) +210m 5:59 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascent II

The second of the Bendigo street to bush transition events. The C and D courses may have been transition, but the A and B courses were certainly all bush. Steady pace, still with that 'post-rogaine' feel. So wasn't too unhappy with the time. A straight line pace of 7.45 for One Tree Hill isn't too bad for me.
A reasonable course for a novice course setter. The transition concept is a good first setting experience. A few of the legs were alittle like street O on tracks, but that is part of the concept. The main problem he found was new fences and tracks on the far side of the map. With our large stable of maps in constant use, we haven't yet worked out how to maintain the maps in this constantly changing terrain.

Out again at 6am with Julie. Stuck to the roads. Gradually recovering from the rogaine.

Running warm up/down 51:00 [2] 8.4 km (6:04 / km) +85m 5:47 / km

In retrospect I was wildly optimistic to plan to run a hill session this morning. It was all I could do to struggle round at just faster than walking pace. A little over 2 weeks to Easter too.

(rest day)

An easy Liggo day. On work duty for 13 hours. I would define a proper liggo day as over 16 hours.
