Sprint into Spring. Eltham College. First loop was interesting. Second loop through same terrain was ho-hum. Glad I don't have to accept this as local orienteering.

spiked:14/14c shoes: ASIC Kayano green/white

Vic Relays. Took me a short time to realise that this looked like a sprint map but wasn't. A standard all to its own. Went as hard as I could to not stand out against other team members and achieved that in splitting their two times.
Not sure I like the idea of the Vic Relay becoming a sprint relay event (next year at Westgate Park). But I don't like the idea of two separate relay events (one bush, one sprint). When it comes to Bendigos time might have to argue for something that actually fits the IOF relay profile- limited visibility in particular. I think the current state of the New Saint Mungo map fits the bill, though it is at 1:5,000 scale. I think visibility is the more important issue.

spiked:8/10c shoes: Salamon Blue

Quite a contrast from the previous weekend. Run the red line and the control will appear... unless its behind a tree. Went past twice for that reason.
Despite knowing the map really well, and running as hard as I could, still ten minutes behind where I would like to be.

More exploring of the new area. Running with GPS to build a base map. No lidar or photogram so it will be challenging. Highlight was getting the car well bogged. Pulled out eventually by a large tilt tray truck with a big chain.
Here are some picture from an earlier trip.

Oz Middle.
This terrain is really well mapped. Made sense much of the time. By the six control I was feeling confident and started to imagine an error free run. Stuffed up the 7th, losing three minutes. Was careful after that. One more error lost me maybe a minute. Was reasonably satisfied with the result until i realised that that error on number 7 cost me a drop in the 2016 ranking from 10th to 11th. Top ten ranking had been my objective for 2016. Early NY resolution for 2017- manage the various tendon issues I have to allow better training. And make sure more of the training is in the right sort of terrain. And map more quality areas to make that training easier for others.

Real Orienteering race (Amiens) 1:11:51 [4] ***** 6.73 km (10:41 / km) +160m 9:33 / km
spiked:8/11c shoes: Salamon Blue

Oz Long.
A very disappointing performance. Three errors might have been par for the day, except that one was a 13 minute error. I think that dropped me from 7th to 13th. Looking at the GPS now I can't understand how I pulled up so short from the control and waster time looking. I was dead on the red line. Should have just kept on the red line and allowed my self to be caught be the track behind the control if I went past. I realised today that red line makes a lot of sense in this country. Its not that steep and there is rough stuff everywhere.
