Nerrina
Perfect event this close to Oz Champs in Ballarat.
The ultra long. Straight line course 2 7.6k.
Navigationally ok. But just slower than I had hoped.
Sore foot now, but I lasted the distance. Will see how it recovers over the next couple of days.

Tried a run, and discovered 5 kilometers is the limit again. Might try and run again tomorrow as it is-
PEAK WHIRRAKEE.

But might not get far and will definitely not be running Friday. Back to two day maximum consecutive runs.

Time to start logging the limited activity over the past week. So busy, little time to exercise and less to log it.
11 AM

Running 57:00 [3] 8.44 km (6:45 / km) +100m 6:23 / km
shoes: ASICS Kayano Grey

Run the circumference of the fence... on the outside. Followed Julie... mostly.
Lesson learnt. Yesterday and this run was beyond the pf tolerance. Ended up limping the last kilometer. The injury is not resolved.
Positive side of the dark cloud... at least I now know my limits for the Oz carnival. Not sure the relay is looking all that positive. No mid week events beyond sprint... for certain.

Note

Lessons learnt from SS6. or Mistakes not to make next time.

Close to the event I discovered a small part of the map that didn't make
sense. I reworked it on the fly without going back to lidar (which was a
little iffy in that spot anyway). It didnt solve the problem and the
more astute orienteers noticed. Conclusion- never do a quick fix on a
map. it won't wor'k. And don't commit to an event until you are totally
happy with the map.

And at the map exchange the course 1 runners shifted the map change
folder and then covered it with used maps. Conclusion- provide a large
plastic rubbish bin for used maps for course 1 (course 3 runners didn't
discard their maps). And hang the map exchange folder by wire above the
ground so it can't be shifted.

I dropped a control box in the dark and wasted time looking. Its easy to find in the daylight.

I had to rerun all the controls in the morning because I forgot to sync,
and I was uncertain because half the controls went out in the dark due
to unforeseen work problems delaying me. I am sure in a years time I
will think all of that is highly amusing. Solution- retire. Timing 15 work days.

Check run of about 40 controls prior to the event. You might call this bad planning, but...
The original plan was to take today off from work. But work snookered me.
First, the day on Melbourne on Thursday was extended to an extra day on Wednesday. I wasn't worried as I had all Friday. Then late Tuesday arvo I received one of those email invitations you can't refuse. From the states most senior two agriculture bureaucrats. They were coming to Bendigo and wanted an hour with me on Friday. Fine.. come in late, leave early I thought. So up at sparrow fart Friday morning and got out 15 controls. In to work. They were expected to arrive at 11. I had no meeting tome other than a rough lunchtime suggestion. Arrived at work at 10.30 to find my meeting was scheduled for one pm. But it didn't start to 2.30 and went overtime to 4.00pm. I arrived at the event site at 4.30 with 40 controls still to go out. I brought my head torch. Quite a few went out in the dark. Gave up when I dropped an SI box and couldn't find it. Julie had promised to help with the remaining 20 park land controls in the morning. Walking back to the car I realised I hadn't synched the boxes as promised. And I was quite concerned that being in a rush in the dark could lead to mistakes. Solution.,, run all the controls on the morning of the event and check and sync each one. It was an early start and I ended up with little time to spare before start duty.

An old time trial route. Not sure objectives reminders of the ageing process are good for morale. Might have been able to be a little fast in the first half, but the second half was on the limit. Actually, over the limit with a few hundred meters to go.
