This session keeps growing as the remedial exercises pile up. I think I need to shower afterwards now.

Not sure if this wasn't too much riding for the foot. Plantar F symptoms emerged towards end of ride.

Managed to get around course 3, but at 3.5 straight line, probably was a bit much. I think my optimum distance at the moment is about 2.5k. After that it gets sore to the extent it outweighs the pleasure of running.

Wrong shoes, no drugs, wrong day. Attempt to do the Hump to Cross and return. Gave up a little over half way with the pain making my eyes water. Frustrated.

A one hour score event for the Mahers Barr Cup. Pretty warm and a good reminder of the conditions at the Oz Rogaining Championships. I am incapable of doing a rogaine at present, but I am not envious. Only one control not spiked, and this could be explained as a cautious aiming off. ie I was too cautious for the conditions. Most notable lesson from this event is that my planning for score has not adapted to me slowing with age and injury. The blue line on the map shows how overly ambitious I was. Perhaps also due to lack of recent experience with a 1:15,000 map. Still, I adjusted as my limitations became more apparent. I was 56 seconds late for 17 controls. Given the shape of my course, the lack of significant errors and running at my best possible speed, I can't see where I could have found another control without losing more in penalties than gaining in points.

The Mahers Barr Cup event perpetuates the memory of Ken Thomas who first created the event to make the point that while you can run in a race you are winning. Thus there is no trophy. Its good to remember a fellow orienteer who was lost far too early.

Started a slower than 6m/k. Last two kilometres brought that down to 5.20. Takes a long while to warm up now. Takes even longer to cool down as well.

Oz Champs Consolation Event
Lyell Forest
Straight line. 7.7k
Choosing Course 1 was perhaps ambitious given the lack of fitness and the heat. But it looked the best designed course so I went for it and am glad I did. Most impressed by Colin Walker's course setting. He knows spur gully. Each leg was interesting, good mix of long and short legs, direction changes aplenty, and the control placement was very efficient for collection. Pretty much an exemplary effort for this type of terrain. You couldn't do much more with it.
My string of injuries and the heat did find me out though.

Two laps of Crusoe. Even came across some runners slower than myself. They probably have plantar fasciitis as well.
