Turning on controls
3 PM

Walking 51:41 [3] 3.17 km (16:18 / km) +70m 14:41 / km
shoes: Nike Yellow Peril

Collecting controls. Amusement episode on collecting the second last and hearing a pathetic wail in the distance as Ian Dodd approached. Control punched whilst moving.
4 PM

Running 23:08 [3] 3.2 km (7:14 / km) +63m 6:35 / km
shoes: Nike Yellow Peril

Collecting the last control that somehow escaped all previous collection efforts.

Course setting (Kooyoora) 1:13:00 [2] 5.0 km (14:36 / km) +60m 13:46 / km
shoes: Nike Yellow Peril

Control turn on. In my opinion a waste of time after noting the lag on off controls. Only a couple were noticeable. On a sprint, yes. Here, waste of time.
4 PM

Walking 1:15:00 [1] 3.0 km (25:00 / km) +50m 23:05 / km
shoes: Nike Yellow Peril

Collecting 30 controls with Julie. The late arrival and even later start of the Tasmanians and the exit of most helpers left a few of us with a lot of controls to collect. Got through over half of them.

Walking 3:00:00 [1] 7.0 km (25:43 / km) +120m 23:41 / km

Placing stands, locking them, checking and taping at Kooyoora.
At about midday after failing to master start draws on OE2010 I was ready to call this my last major event involvement. I don't understand why it wouldn't work, as I have done quite a few start draws withOE2003. I haven't had a good experience with OE2010 in quite a few regards. Saved by the competent team of Ian Chennell and Geoff Lawford who are on top of this. They instead export from OE into a spreadsheet, create their draw and then import back into OE2010. Maybe it isn't just me. Its good to be working with a good team.

Real Orienteering race (Mt Ida) 1:09:00 [3] *** 7.5 km (9:12 / km) +230m 7:59 / km
spiked:10/10c shoes: Nike Yellow Peril

Mt Ida. Quite a contrast to my orienteering experience in Slovenija. You can fall asleep for parts of this terrain. Discovered how far my fitness has declined. Running felt hard. Didn't find control 2. Assumed I had mis-marked my map. Turns out it was a bit far down the spur, so the master map was mismarked instead...Knew I was in the correct location so after a cursory search, just kept running for the next control. Its only a local event.

Must put my Slovenian races on Quick Route. Looks like the Noodle Award is worth winning given the new shirt that goes with it. A couple of Slovenian days will be contenders. Mind you, it is another league to Bendigo Spur Gully.
