I think I'll go through that box of tissues today.

Sunday May 27, 2012 #

Note
(sick)

Half a voice, no sense of smell and a headache. Good start to the day.

Saturday May 26, 2012 #

Note
(sick)

Still in throws of virus. Now I am speechless. Just managed to fit in the VOA AGM presentation last night. No orienteering this weekend.

Friday May 25, 2012 #

Note
(sick)

More of the same. But a good day to have an excuse not to go for a run.

Thursday May 24, 2012 #

Note
(sick)

It came on

Note

Instead of running have been working on the AGM presentation on umapped terrain around Victoria. Hopefully it stimulates some interest.

Real Orienteering race (Irishtown) 1:15:44 [3] *** 7.9 km (9:35 / km) +110m 8:58 / km
spiked:18/21c shoes: Innov-8

IrishTown. Well set course that used the best areas of the map. Much appreciated. Three errors, each when I caught up to someone and then tried to speed up to drop them, thus facilitating the opposite result. None was a massive clanger of an error, just annoying. Not a good time, other than that I predicted this within 44 seconds when registering. But can't expect better given the state of the right leg and left knee over the past three months. Evidence of improvement in both today.
And concluded the easter 2013 conversation troika, so the main game of the day was achieved.

Walking 30:00 [2] 4.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Innov-8

Seems I can't avoid control collection, even if I turn up to one local event. Yes, it turned out is was Julie's 'turn' as next week was her event until it shifted to the rogaine. But it did start me thinking.
1 PM

Real Orienteering race (Kangaroo Gully) 1:03:00 [3] 8.0 km (7:53 / km)
shoes: Innov-8

Came out of 'retirement' for a Daryl Fleay course on Kangaroo Gully.
One small error taking the wrong track at a junction. Otherwise on target. Seems I can't run fast enough to confuse myself on a map I know far too well.
Managed the important conversations re easter 2013 with the people i wanted to to catch.

7 AM

Back, core and achilles 15:00 [1]

8 AM

MTB (Not O) 18:17 [4] 8.1 km (2:15 / km)

A hard ride for a change. Clocked a new max speed down Barnard street of 51.7kph. This was one of those rare examples of the downhill work producing the maximum heart rate for the session.
1 PM

Running 34:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:40 / km) +50m 5:26 / km
shoes: ASICS GT-2700

Less worse than usual feeling in the legs today. I must take more of these drugs... when I can work out what they actually are.
6 PM

MTB (Not O) 27:00 [2] 8.3 km (3:15 / km)

Slow trip home with an inoperable seat. Took the scenic route.

Thursday May 10, 2012 #

Running 34:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:40 / km) +30m 5:32 / km
shoes: ASICS GT-2700

Too pleasant outside to make an excuse for a sedentary lunch break. I know this won't last much longer.
I am realising that my muscle soreness is not improving. Time for more dedicated action. Not sure what though.
6 PM

MTB (Not O) 19:55 [3] 8.1 km (2:28 / km)

Wednesday May 9, 2012 #

6 AM

Back, core and achilles 10:00 [1]

Running 34:55 [3] 5.7 km (6:08 / km) +30m 5:58 / km

Morning conjugal run. My body doesn't like running before morning tea. This felt hard and fast but the GPS says slow and plodding.

Two interesting observations.
A small delivery van at Woolie.. Ute size and obviously not corporate. Is the duopoly going local.
Two examples of dog walking. One was a baby pusher with the dog sitting in the seat. The second was someone who obviously walks his dogs down to the local primary school so they can shit in the loose pine bark under the playground attractions. What a shit, and I'm not talking about the deposits.

Note

Four hours mapping. The first draft is complete. I have kept a log throughout this. Seven square kilometres has taken 80 hours work spread over 12 weeks. Basically every spare hour I could get away. I am quite over it. It is funny how one starts so full of excitement and enthusiasm, and then you gradually wear that down. I think excitement is a function of how much unknown lies in front of the mapper. The object of the task is to eliminate that unknown. The side effect is to destroy excitement.

John Colls is going to field check some of the map. Not sure how far he will get. I expect to be making changes in a few weeks when I am in the mood again. Time for something else on the weekend. And time to think about the copyright arrangements. Quite a few options come to mind, and none of them have been seen on forest maps in Victoria.

Tuesday May 1, 2012 #

8 AM

MTB (Not O) 19:45 [4] 8.1 km (2:26 / km)

Took it hard from the start of the ride. Too hard. Was into red zone before the top of the first hill, and for a change a string of green lights gave no compulsory recovery time. Strange that. So my ride time ended up slower than I would have expected.
No running today. I need to let a blister heal.
