With each injury my preventative/recovery exercise list grows. What was once 20 minutes has grown to an hour. Stll a fair way from being able to claim my latest soft tissue injury is cured. Still, will hobble round the first part of the night event this evening. Will take a book to read whilst I wait for Julie to finish.

Real Orienteering race (Dead Bullock Gully) 1:09:17 [2] **** 6.8 km (10:11 / km) +160m 9:07 / km

The annual Bendigo Night event run by Toph. Great fun. Despite the injury I wasn't going to miss this event. It was slow careful running with walking in the uneven ground.
Four errors of 20 controls, which considering how slow I was going, isn't that good. Two were minor, one significant (90 seconds on 18) and one embarrassing (6.30 on 20). The latter I was just bamboozled. Must have been the mapper.
I have reflected on the run of Bendigo events at the start of this season. Bendigo ToDay, Heathcote Hagaby, Bendigo Rocks at Korong and the Night Champs. In a few weeks it will be the Vic Middle on Yorkshire Hill (still locally known as "Inside the Fence"). I can take the glass half empty view that i have managed to be injured for the majority of these events. Or the glass half ull that I am lucky to be given thes eopportunities. has to be the glass half full outlook. Onward with the rehab program and maybe I will be able to run at the Middle.
Thanks to Toph for the great experience. After the race Toph mused about a NOL night hagaby on Korong.

I might be injured but I wasn't going to miss the one race at Korong for the year. Chose course 3 and walked much of it, running when it was even open country. Running might be putting too strong an image in your mind. Lame limp-jog. Still better than the event the previous Saturday when I tried to run three times and managed to get through seven steps in total before resuming my walk.

Walking 1:45:00 [1] 7.0 km (15:00 / km)

Managed to get round a few holes. Scored in the low 90s which for me is exceptional. The injury meant I couldn't swing as hard, so instead I was slower and straighter. Lesson there.
12 PM

Pool running 20:00 [1]

More of this activity. I don't understand how anyone can do hours of this.

Pool running 20:00 [1]

I have descended to this. On the positive side again, a visit to the Eaglehawk Pool deludes me for a short while that I am still thin. On one side the Massive Mothers and Minute Toddlers session. On the other the Massive Seniors and Massive exercise instructor session.

ahr:85 max:133 spiked:16/19c shoes: Salamon Speedcross 4 blue No 2

Managed to do course 3 on this new map. Nice running terrain, though I was less than capable of running. Carrying a knee problem on one leg and a muscle problem on the other, I only managed to get round by walking with two trecking poles! Not much training the next couple of weeks. Hydro pool, deep massage will be more the theme.
Worst error on the gps was not an error, but a diversion to assist a confused spouse. David Goddard came past and accused us of pillow talk.

Note
(injured)

Torn gluteaus muscle right leg. Previous experience suggests three weeks minimum.

Walking 2:15:00 [1] 9.0 km (15:00 / km)

Real Orienteering race (Kangaroo Gully) 52:17 [3] 6.32 km (8:16 / km) +125m 7:32 / km
shoes: Salamon Speedcross 4 blue No 2

First local event of the year for me.
Fell between 6 and 7. The point is the red on the quickroute trace. Tore the right hamstring. Not bad enough to stop me running, but perhaps I should have stopped. Was slower after that and distracted. Made a massive error on 10. Edge of the map has changed somewhat and I made a parallel there with someone else. Lost 5.30.
Not sure I can run at the SS on Sunday. Will probably just walk part of the course.

Note
(injured)

Patella tracking issue. Previous experience suggests six days to recover.

Skraplands
Wasn't fit for Easter, but Easter in Tasmania seems to have got me fitter. Took almost two minutes off my pre-Easter time for this run. In fact, running felt easy for the first time in 18 months.
Must be about to break down again.

Final day. Interesting terrain in a perverse sort of way. Bland hill sides. Vegetation boundaries, clearings and root mounds were the main features. Really rough underfoot. Continental terrain for those having to train for such an eventuality. We don't often run in such areas, particularly at national carnivals.
Only one error on number 2. I saw the correct feature but ran past not believing such a small root mound would be mapped. Lost 40 seconds. Other than that, a faultless run. Obviously could have been fitter and faster, but day 1 proved that my decline in fitness costs less time than the potential for stupidity.
Was quite excited to check the results online later to discover I was fourth for the day and sixth overall. Then I looked at the injury list, the mps and the non attenders and realised fourth in this field was more like tenth in a normal national event field. But I will take it anyway.

Real Orienteering race (Lovely Banks West) 47:52 [4] **** 4.96 km (9:39 / km) +160m 8:19 / km
ahr:137 max:165 spiked:9/11c shoes: Salamon Speedcross 4 blue No 2

Day 2 started with the spare compass. Only two errors, and those were not related to compass work, but lack of sensible attack point choices for the first two rock controls.
1- Went in too early, not noticing the thicket that was a good attack point. 1.10 lost.
2- Met Julie on the way to two. She had not found her first control despite being 20 minutes into the race. And it turned out she was a long way from where she should have been. I acted compassionately and helped her relocate. Then she led me into my next control (her first). I went in too early. Lost 40 seconds.
3- The long leg. Did this one ok. Surprised me as I was thinking half way through that I had taken the straight option and going around the rough stuff might have been better.
5-11. No errors. Somewhat slow up the hills.
Placed 8th for the day I think. A somewhat better result. Pulled back to 10th overall. A little happier.
