Bush Event #59
The second in the true end of bush season carnival. No, the bush orienteering season does not finish after the Oz Champs carnival, despite what quite a few orienteers seem to think. Two very different events for the weekend. Only a three hour drive between them. I really enjoyed this one, and was disappointed to be unable to run on the Saturday event, being organiser. Well set by Michael Burt, who made multiple trips from Canberra to make the courses.
Took track options a number of times and QR speed colours show the sense of this. Could have taken a couple of more tracks. Spiked all but one control, and that was possibly one of the easiest. Took the track option and turned off and ran past a control visible from the track. Made sure I didin't join AWOC so as not to end up setting next year. Setting six events this year in Bendigo was too many.
And so ends the Victorian bush season. Missed out on the target of 62 events. Two Bendigo cancellations and skipping a State Series due to lots of Canberra trips made it rather difficult. Still to decide whether to do the 5Days to get to the target. But even with out that end of season event grab, who was it said there is a "shortage of quality bush events". .Maybe there is a shortage of quality bush events near Melbourne, but that is never going to change. Thats not where you find the quality terrain. Its not necessarily the SS where you find quality either. Three new maps for the Vic season and only one released at a SS.

Bush event #58
Took on the organisation of this one late in the season when the scheduled organiser pulled out. Used the Billygoat format and it turned out to be an interesting option for the runners. Which three controls to drop. Only 25 or so entrants, but no-one dropped the same controls. Took a bit of thinking about the course to get this result.

Walking 3:00:00 [1] 12.0 km (15:00 / km)

Spent most of the day placing controls for the Billygoat. The format means that controls are generally well spaced. Hard to design an efficient course.
