Real Orienteering (Tambaroora) 56:25 [3] **** 6.23 km (9:03 / km) +210m 7:45 / km
spiked:8/9c shoes: Salamon Speedcross 4 blue

Event #52
Aus Long M60 - Tambaroora
Almost perfect run. A small wobble on the second then spiked everything. The extra distance to a middle ensured I was further down the field than I would have liked. The lack of long running this year really showed up.

#51
Maquarie Woods.
Another near perfect run. One small error, maybe 5 seconds. Since the missed control on Saturday there have been 46 controls without one being coloured pink in Winsplits. I can't remember a streak like this before. Hope it lasts for two more events.

spiked:13/13c shoes: Salamon Speedcross 4 blue

Bush event # 50.
Willagalong Roseberg
Pretty pleasant map with the exception of areas of dead timber which were taxing. Relatively gentle slopes, high visibility with enough granite to help rather than hinder. Spiked everything. The perfect run for the year. Pity I didn't do this on Sunday. There were some big mistakes out there, especially amongst the juniors, which I found rather hard to understand. I think some days it seems easier than it really is.
Can I reach 60 this season? I suspect 58 will be the end point unless I head for the Xmas 5 Days. Not sure the heart will be in that, though a chance to race on Inverary might change that perception.

#49
Australian Middle Distance Champs.

The one that got away. Checked the codes of all but one control. That was the third- identical parallel feature- erosion gully end with cliff. Near perfect run after that. That unaccustomed feeling of passing people in my age class. Would have been within top 10 for only time this year at a national race.
I think this will be the non-result to spur an effort for summer training.

Simple nav, no mistakes, not very fast. GPS took a while to find satellites.

Real Orienteering (Petticoat Gully) 46:08 [3] ***** 4.03 km (11:27 / km)
spiked:18/20c shoes: Salamon Speed Cross 4 Black

Bush Event #47
Vic Middle Champs Petticoat Gully
Started well but made a couple of mistakes towards the end as I tired. It was very physical for a middle. The mistakes were due to oversimplifying.
Hard to see this map ever being used for a Majoe Championship given new map specification.

Running warm up/down 8:10 [2] 1.29 km (6:20 / km) +10m 6:06 / km

Note

Sign of the times. I am quite pleased to have managed 40 k of running this week. It hasn't happened too often this year. Last year it was a standard week. Virii, achilles, PF etc.

Real Orienteering race (Black Mountain) 54:37 [3] *** 6.4 km (8:32 / km)
spiked:11/11c shoes: Salamon Speed Cross 4 Black

Bush Event #46
Mid-week pensioner orienteering on Black Mountain north. Convinced Julie to take a break from eulogy writing and clothes sorting to get out in the bush. I think it raised her mood, though mine was less elevated. We ran around together and most of the time I was lagging behind her. It was a lesson in how I am slower these days.

Note

No run today. Too much else going on. Run tomorrow and probably midweek pensioner orienteering on, on Black Mountain. Hoping to escape the ACT in time for the weekend. Its touch and go.

ACT Metro Event Mt Jerrambomberra
Bush event #45
Too a little while to adjust to a 1:5,000 map with 5 metre contours!
Generally moderate navigation, but I still managed to miss two controls. Probably need more practice contouring steep featureless slopes. Thing is, I don't want to practice contouring steep featureless slopes.

Ran course 2 for this saturdays event a cuple of days early. Will be in Canberra over the weekend. Hoping to run the ACT Metro event at Jerrabomberra to try and make up for my lack of motivation last week.

Jaded about events wins. Sleep in and blob around house rather than Glenluce. Off to Melbourne later for Fathers Day. Had my fill yesterday.

Walking warm up/down 20:00 [2] 1.95 km (10:15 / km) +70m 8:42 / km
shoes: Salamon Speed Cross 4 Black

Observation of the day. I think one can predict the names of the people who will collect controls on any given event. Its a cadre of about seven who will be doing it of they are at the event. It would be a good sign if the list was larger.
1 PM

Real Orienteering race (Mt Tarrengower) 1:05:28 [3] **** 6.63 km (9:52 / km) +300m 8:03 / km
spiked:12/15c shoes: Salamon Speed Cross 4 Black

Bush event No. 43. Tarrengower.
Starting to feel a bit jaded about going to events, though when I get there, if the terrain is enjoyable I enjoy the event. Tarrengower is steep, but open with interesting granite. Enjoyed the courses Ilka set.
Three errors.
No: 2 Went towards the wrong cliff and slab, but corrected before reaching it. Lost maybe 30 seconds.
No. 5 went to the wrong boulder and had to reverse. Again maybe 30 seconds.
No 13. Didn't read the description and was lookingfor a control in a watercourse rather than on a boulder. Went right past control and didn't see it. Further down gully I reversed. Last a couple of minutes maybe.
Two more wobbles.
4 Possibly took the wrong way round the mountain. I ran along a track that was no longer there and was probably a little slow. Was also uncertain approaching the rock in the end of the long leg. I headed right to make certain I saw the cliff/rock feature, and it was where I thought it should be, so I was on the correct line after all and would have spiked it.
