Back, core and achilles 10:00 [1]

Real Orienteering race (Peter the Great Gully) 54:10 [4] 8.86 km (6:07 / km) +110m 5:45 / km
shoes: Pretty blue mizuno trail shoes

Who says being the map maker is an advantage? Every race I run on Peter the Great Gully, I take the map lightly and end up paying. Two significant errors today. Despite this, I really like running out here. The lines of denser vegetation break up the line of sight giving a more isolated feel, but despite this the terrain is fast. The limited climb helps as well. A six minutes per kilometre by Obewan (straight line measure) tells the story.

Running 26:40 [2] 2.87 km (9:17 / km) +40m 8:41 / km

Collecting controls. Just to get a bit extra time out in this forest.

Running hills 23:10 [3] 3.6 km (6:26 / km) +100m 5:39 / km

Only time for a short run, so I tried a short Mackenzie with 5 west Rowan st hill reps seeing Obewan is doing the same.

Running 48:17 [3] 7.83 km (6:10 / km) +120m 5:44 / km

Walking 4:00:00 [1] 6.5 km (36:55 / km) +300m 30:00 / km
shoes: Asic Gel-Torano

Mt Stapleton-Hollow Mtn circuit.
Don't remember it as being this hard. Did it in reverse to the usual direction and became somewhat confused in the final traverse into Hollow Mtn. Took a while to realise that you really did follow the top of the ridge.
Taken before the hard stuff.

Swimming 15:00 [3]

Only one short climb over easter... a short beginners classic. Reminded me how out of form I am these days.

Running 50:44 [3] 7.95 km (6:23 / km) +145m 5:51 / km
shoes: Pretty blue mizuno trail shoes

Building an extended Skraplands run through Specimen Hill, Sparrowhawk and Ironbark. At the moment it is 5.2k of 7.9 in bushland and wasteland. I can see 7.6k of 10.3. That will be a good addition to the repertoire.

Next couple of days in the Grampians.. or what is 'open' anyway. With a lot of luck I may get half a day of climbing.

Walking 1:00:00 [1] 3.0 km (20:00 / km) +100m 17:09 / km
shoes: Pretty blue mizuno trail shoes

Walk up Mt Zero.

Running 41:30 [3] 7.5 km (5:32 / km) +80m 5:15 / km

Two ressy loop. Crusoe was very pretty in the sun. Great spot for an assembly area for an Easter Day 3.

Running 59:18 [3] 9.45 km (6:17 / km) +190m 5:42 / km

Further exploring mining terrain between Gold Associates Road and Inglis St. Then found the open gates into the old Specimen Hill Reservoir. Quite interesting terrain.

To start

Real Orienteering race (Chewton Diggings) 1:13:15 [3] 8.73 km (8:23 / km) +250m 7:20 / km
shoes: Asic Gel-Torano

State Series event at Chewton Diggings. If this was all there was to orienteering, life would be wonderful. Decided I needed to just enjoy being out, so took it gently. Not much navigational drama as a consequence. maybe I made the wrong choices on two of the three route choice legs. Spiked 16 of 20. Off by 20 metres on 1. Spiked the feature at 5 but didn't see the control from above and so lost about a minute recovering when I didn't need to. Over ran 17 a little on the faint track. Only bad error was 19 due to overconfidence and not using a compass through the green. Almost reached the track.

Running 48:00 [3] 8.6 km (5:35 / km) +40m 5:27 / km

Round town in the dark.
Win for the day- diddled for change by the self-service check out at Woolies. Got recompensed which surprised me.

Running 48:11 [3] 7.85 km (6:08 / km) +125m 5:41 / km

Exploring Specimen Hill Reserve. A nice small area to map, but too many hills and not enough detail for an Orientshow.
Took it very slow and was protecting sore neck. Not likely to orienteer this weekend.

Note

Too busy to find time for running.
But I am enjoying reading comments about the Orientshow, with equal measure of praise and curses in the same log. Good laugh.
On the issue of hidden controls. I really did have trouble matching our chain-lock length with the distance from bush edge to solid core. Anticipating some discussion of this, I photographed half the sites as I put them out. So for those not at the event, here is the issue. Thirty or so control sites are found with this link.

Note

From Finn Arildsen

To address this scenario, Condes 9 will include a "loop" variant of the relay concept. The loop feature will support Hagaby relays, butterflies, and other variants of one-man relays. Each course variation (comprising all branches of all loops ) will be included in the XML export. My understanding is that OE will accept this concept as "one course" with multiple variations.

Maybe I will run the orientshow again next year after all.
