Walking 5:20:00 [1] 18.0 km (17:47 / km)

Around El Chalten. We started at Hosteria El Pilar and headed up the valley of the Rio Blanco to Poincenot. From there we climbed a steep mountain trail to Lago de Los Tres at the foot of the glacier of the same name. Then we retraced our steps to the car.

Scenery was wonderful as always. Weather was good (though we had a few showers in the first half hour and it was windy as always in these parts) with lots of people out for the day. High on the mountain we met an Aussie couple from Wollongong who were also on a one year round the world trip with their kids - quite a coincidence.

Running warm up/down 17:00 [2] 3.0 km (5:40 / km)

Running tempo 12:00 [5] 3.0 km (4:00 / km)

In El Chalten. Ran a hard 3km. The bits running with the wind were a lot faster than the bits against. At times it made me feel like I was going backwards.

Hammy was fine.

Running 40:00 [3] 8.0 km (5:00 / km)

Around El Calafate in Argentina before breakfast. Whatever was bugging my hammy 2 days ago seems to have cleared up which I hoped reinforced my diagnosis that it was just soreness related to hill climbing and descending.

Ran from our hotel down to the lakefront, along the lake for a few ks then down the main street and a loop in the suburbs to finish.

Walking 1:30:00 [1] 5.0 km (18:00 / km)

Walking around the Moreno Glacier to various lookout points

Running 13:00 [2] 2.0 km (6:30 / km)

This was supposed to be a speed session around the streets of Puerto Natales but when I started warming up, my left hamstring seemed really tight for some reason. I jogged around for a few minutes but it didn't seem to improve so I decided to call it quits without getting into any fast stuff.

I'm assuming it's related to all the hill walking we've been doing. Decided on a rest tomorrow and a course of stretching.

Walking 1:30:00 [1] 6.0 km (15:00 / km)

walking around the Milodon caves park. It would make quite a good o area. The vegetation and rock reminded me (at various times) of Sweden, Central Europe and Australia.

Some pics here...

8 PM

Running 24:00 [2] 5.0 km (4:48 / km)

Had a 3pm lunch where I ate half a lamb hence the reason for waiting until 8 to go out.

Along the waterfront at Puerto Natales. Didn't run with my shirt off today - it was very cold and windy. A real struggle to get going and I chucked it in after 24 minutes.

Walking 1:30:00 [1] 6.0 km (15:00 / km)

Around Lago Grey to see the icebergs. Some of the forest on the little island at the end of the walk really reminded me of orienteering in O-vik or perhaps Trondheim.

Was a pretty wet walk.
3 PM

Walking 1:15:00 [2] 5.0 km (15:00 / km) +500m 10:00 / km

After lunch at a café we did our second walk of the day. This one was very uphill to a view over Lago Grey. Sam and Elise only went up about 200 meters but I climbed to about 500 before turning around. The top was at 700 meters above the lake but I didn't want to keep the family waiting too long at the car and by this stage it was pissing down rain. Was wearing running shoes and walking down was super slippery.
