Note

A couple of short walks from the car this day to look at the sights but nothing very long.

Poor Sam got blown off his feet by the Patagonian winds. After that he wasn't keen to get out of the car much.

Walking 6:00:00 [1] 22.0 km (16:22 / km)

Hiking in Torres del Paine from Hotel Los Torres to Mirador Las Torres and back. Was a great day. A little overcast and a tiny bit of rain and sleet at the Mirador. We were out for about 8 hours and probably walking for 6 of them.

Really impressed with Sam who did it all with only a few complaints. The stunning scenery probably helped.

With 1 km to go we stopped at the hotel for 2 family pizzas while lounging on couches in the bar with the sun coming through the window behind us. After that the last k was very hard!

Running 40:00 [2] 7.0 km (5:43 / km)

Run from our campsite near PN Torres del Paine. Was an out and back along the river, some road and some terrain. Scenery was perfect which helped me get going after a tough start (the first 1km was uphill and into the wind).

Saw a nice rapid/waterfall and came back the next day to take some pictures...

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)

Running intervals 16:00 [5] 4.0 km (4:00 / km)

65-120s (45s recovery) in Punta Arenas - my most southerly run ever.

Quite pleased I toughed it out on a very hot day after we had been out in the sun visiting the penguins all afternoon.

I found a large green space on the town map where I planned to run but it turned out to be a military area of some sort so I ended up running up and down the streets.

As it was hot I took my shirt off after a few minutes. While running one repeat I was wolf whistled from one car and then during my warm down next to a main road, two girls slowed their car and beeped at me before speeding off. I was jogging on the footpath so I don't think I was obstructing their journey.

Punta Arenas is a strange place.

Running 32:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:20 / km)

A really warm day today - max of 30 or so coming up. Went for a run on a quiet dirt road west of Castro. The flies (like Aussie March flies) were terrible. I had a swim in the river afterwards but couldn't get changed quick enough with a cloud of the blighters all over me.

I had planned to run for longer but wasn't super motivated and I figured longer runs could wait for next week when we are in Torres del Paine.
