Running warm up/down 5:00 [2] 1.0 km (5:00 / km)

Orienteering race 46:00 [4] 6.0 km (7:40 / km)

Australian Middle

Considering my week of poor health I was really happy with the result. Only really 2 proper errors - about 30sec on 5 (while Simon was losing a fair bit more higher up the hill) and maybe 90sec at the end of the long leg - partly route and partly missing in the circle. Was pathetically slow though.

The Gib lived up to expectations. Good course Rob set too - not much free mental time although at the speed I was going, it wasn't too hard to stay on top of the map, even given the complexity.

Felt a bit ill again in the evening - tough to stress my body like that only a few days after being sick. Or it could have been the meat pie, apple turnover with cream, roast chicken with full trimmings and apple crumble that I consumed between 2pm and bed. A major upgrade from the bread and water diet 48 hours before.

Note
(sick)

Ready to run in the afternoon when I started to feel a bit off. Called the run off and ate no dinner. Didn't help - had a couple of chunders in the night. Must be the same bug that Sam had last weekend.

Note

Still a bit whacked from the weekend so decided on a second day of nothing

Running warm up/down 8:00 [2] 2.0 km (4:00 / km)

Orienteering race 1:53:00 [4] 18.0 km (6:17 / km)

Felt pretty flat right from the off. Pretty happy I gritted it out to run the whole course. Got a few short tows that helped at times, especially from Robbie through a few legs mid course.

I'm not really that fit but I was a bit disappointed to be so far down. I expect I've caught a touch of whatever bug Sam has been carrying. My past strength of pushing hard through fallen timber is now very clearly a weakness - and there was plenty of fallen timber. Area was great - quite like Badja.

Very impressed with Matt's winning time. Hard to make comparisons with the past but after looking at splits I suspect I couldn't have matched it even in my best years.

Might be the last M21E National Long for me. From next year on 45s maybe.
