(Center of the) Universe Orienteering Championships map

Map is really quite interesting and technical, double level stuff for a good chunk of it, and lots of stairs vs. non-stairs decisions. BigWillyStyle's log has a pic of the map and his routes, with comments by the organizer PinkSocks on the best route and route lengths for each different option on each leg.

Running 1:10:00 [1] 10.1 km (6:56 / km) +459m 5:39 / km

Running while GPSing a bunch of trails in Haines Creek, and about an hour twenty of mapping the north end in the middle of it.

Mapping 1:20:00 intensity: (1:00:00 @0) + (20:00 @1)

Thicker vegetation towards the north end, and lots of rock so pretty slow going. The middle chunk of the map is just gorgeous forest though (can't wait to get there...).

Counted at about 1/5 of actual time (an hour not in zone 1, and twenty minutes in zone 1).

Drafting 2:00:00 [0]

Drawing the MacArthur island sports complex in Kamloops from scratch. Love the Kamloops basemap materia, LiDAR data, georeferencing tiff imagery from last year, it's paradise!

The Area should be a nice sprint map, even though it is mostly parkland and not too technical. It'll be great for the beginner series we are using it for.

Updating the Valleyview sprint map from 2014. Very minor updates, just 3-5 new trails, a few changed trees, but that's about it. Updated with 2016 imagery, so fairly up to date.

I might get around to fixing up the ISOM map of the larger park, but if so that would be later in the year. Other higher priority maps first.

Running 1:13:01 [1] 8.9 km (8:13 / km) +426m 6:37 / km

Super easy run with Dad in South Canoe up KC, and down Flipside and lower schitzo. Lots of snow on Lumpy Road, almost 8 inches in places. KC itself was fairly open except for the top little bit still had some snow.

Running 1:10:31 [1] 10.71 km (6:35 / km) +434m 5:29 / km

Run at South Canoe to break up the Calculus studying...

Nice run, started just before the high school bike team went out. I went up Flying Nun, cut onto PPT, troll bridge, cross cut, triangle up (which is drying out a bit, but still not quite bikeable) and the bear's den. Over to Mo Buddah, and then up Mo Better which they are just starting to build. The bottom of it looked okay, all brushed out, but 200m in, and we hit a rocky sidehill for like 1km that was just loose and sketchy. Slow going espescially in the thick bottomed salomons. The top of the trail was great where it has already been built. Came down flipside (where I met the fast group of the bike team going up), lower schitzo part way and then went down the cut to paranoia right. Down PPT2 (saw the other half of the bike team at the top of Malibu), cutting onto climb halfway down.

Really nice running, felt great, and decently fast except for the really slow sidehilling/bushwacking.

Biking 1:06:04 [1] 13.78 km (4:48 / km) +376m 4:13 / km

Easy ride to South Canoe, up climb, troll bridge, prudential, and back along P2/Undercut and down Flying Nun and home. Feeling really tired today.
