Birkenburn AL. Was pretty keen after last weekend at kooyoora and started well hitting the long 2k leg pretty well. No 3 in the wrong spot but unlike many others I at least saw it and got it. Stuffed 5 in the creeks - ran well up to it and cruised along beside watercourses assuming I would see it but didnt. Probaly dropped 4mins as relocating was not easy. Then my big error across vague area ran compass and thought I knew where I was but nothing made sense. Was meant to be in a little gully but there were mutliple gullies with erosiiony creeks in the bottom of them. Eventually tentatively went towards the control as though I was where I thought I was and got it but had dumped at least 5mins in confusion.
Considered finishing up at map change (well map flip over actually) but had a gel instead and was feeling good physically so barged off up the hill only to lose 4mins or so with pretty similar problem to last error.
Anyway rest of the course was pretty good with the asterix of I hadnt taken a map bag so my map was deteriorating greatly and had sections of guess work or stopping to paper mache a section of the map together. Finished strongly in the paddock getting the last 2 well which were a bit tricky.
So overall it was a shocker probably with 15mins of mistakes. I think maybe I was spoilt by Kooyoora in expecting to easily understand the map when todays area was the opposite for me. Having said it was a shocker my terrain running was best its been for a long while and there were a few navigational legs that were gems.

Tiredness that wasnt there on Tuesday was here today. Pathetically short run which I didnt notice how short it was because I was focussed on gathering evidence as to whether Two Before Ten Cafe is opening at Aranda Shops (i.e. about 300m from my house...)

Note

Didn't think about my MP incident until last night when got map out to do AP. I was so sure I'd been to 24 that I didn't think about it but unfortunately when looked at map 24 was also 21 so I would've been there for 21 (if that makes sense). Then, with some worry, downloaded my GPS track onto AP and it didn't look like I had been to 24 either - but I was so sure? A sleepless night and unfortunately I've worked it out. In the butterfly loop I went from 23 to 26 (which was also 22), almost got to 26 and realised something was wrong, looked at my map and thought I'd been to 24 and 23 but skipped 25 so rattled off down to 25 without going back for 24 (which was also 21 so I had been there but not the 2nd timeā€¦). Bugger. Very disappointed. Rang Jimbo this morning, we looked at it together and he'll update results with me as a MP/DNF. Apologies to Jimbo for putting him under the pump when I can see whats happened now.

Girls had to be at school early for Junior Choir so took the chance and ran to work after drop off. Legs felt pretty good considering how knackered they felt on drive home on Sunday.
