Stromlo Running Festival Lightning Strike 30k. Last hurrah of 6ft training, with only 3 weeks to go. Hopefully its not too close but this was the last of a few big weekends - last weekend 35k at Mt Clear with ALJ and weekend before 2 days of 2hr runs with Frogga.
Plan on this race was to really hold back until 25k or so. Partly as not wanting to thrash self before 6FT and partly because have to hold self back in 6FT. Found reasonable pace with legs a bit weary going up hill. Good downhill pace of not thrashing legs but not stopping self. Through a ford with Vince Craig and had a chat with him.
Couldnt really piece together the tracks I'd run through in the past - the run is from the brindabellas, through Pierces Ck forest (not a forest anymore), the cotter and back into stromlo (arachnocopia) to end at Stromlo Forest Prk.
Got through to Cotter alright and probably upped the pace a little runnning with a couple of guys. Unfortunately coming over Cotter Bridge I knew I'd need to have a pit stop so ducked into bush to see numeri people run past.
Up through Camp Cottermouth and into back of stromlo (arachnocopia). Had set for getting faster at 25k but round 23k decided to get going to chase down a few people who had passed me at my pitstop. Legs were tired but enjoyed racing a bit more. Had a battle with orange singlet who tried to hang on but left him up steep hill out of 25k drinks stop. Passed a few more on way to finish but couldnt catch Sydney Striders girl who was built like a tank and I later found out had run numeri marathons with a PB of 2.55.
THink I achieved goals of another long tough run without destroying myself. Nice to catch Neil Prosser at finish and have a yak. Now to freshen up and do some fast stuff.

gentlemans ride by myself. Legs were tired and weary so rolled into ride shop in the city. scoping for new bike and helmet. tried on about 20 helmets without looking at any price tags. one of them fitted perfect, felt like i wasnt wearing a helmet. Price tag? most expensive one in shop - $350. bugger. but I want it?
Note weight explosion from last nights indian butter chicken and rice.

XC at Telopea Pk. Figured I'd be knackered today from weekends long run but was actually ntb. Helped that it was only 4k! First k pretty steady in behind Simon Claringbold and it was down hill. Passed Simon into 2nd as sitting behind him seemed comfortable. 3rd downhill again and got distracted thinking about something or other. 4th tried to keep pace up and hold off Simon but legs were reminding me of Sundays long run. Beat Simon easily in the end and time ok given funny ol course with wiggles and undulations.
