Two Bays Trail Run, this year joined by BA and ALJ while RobW wrangled 5 kids!
Up early for car shuffle and ended up with good park at Dromana by 630am for 7am start. Different starting in Wave 1 this year with plenty of people running my pace. Tried to run conservative up Arthurs Seat but got a bit caught up racing a bit. After the top of the climb I really got caught up racing with a few guys coming past like bullets on the easy down and across section. Slowed myself up when felt myself going lactic on a little climb (only 22k or so to go at that stage!). DOwn the big ski run (ALJs name for it) and passed quite a few soft road runners. Had a gel through the short suburban section and after that found myself on the dirt roads running with a guy who had more Salomon gear than RobW and Devil (backpack, compression t shirt, shoes and shorts. didnt notice the socks).
Had another gel as Salomon guy and I started the long and beautiful rolling single track section. It wasnt too long till we picked up a group or 3 other guys and the 5 of us got into a good rhythm with occasional banter. I was struggling a little to hang on up the rises but picked them back up on the downs and flats.Bizarrely as we neared the end of the section a group of 4 came up behind us and passed us like a steam train. 1 of them immediately dropped off the back of our group, another I passed at 23k running very slowly and the other 2 I passed later walking!
Towards the end of the section I dropped a little off the back of the group and felt fairly thirsty. Had almost finished my water so when saw water truck at 22k I had a gel and filled the bottle again. It meant I lost the group but I think it was right thing to do. The final 5.5k is rolliing, sandy, single track through tea tree. After drink and gel I mad a determined effort to finish off hard and did so. THis mean passing a few guys, pushing to keep running up the 75m of stairs (felt like 750m of stairs!) and "sprinting" the finish.
Time was 2 and a half mins quicker than last year and looking briefly at the splits I was a lot quicker up the hill (caught up in racing this year, calf problem last year), generally quicker through the middle, lost 45s with the drink fill up this year and a little slower/same in last 5.5k section. Gear seemed fine with 2XU shorts cuttting out any chaffing and Adidas Bostons performing nicely. Its a different race to 6FT with nearly all single track and lots of little surges through single track bends, steps and rises compared with 6FTs long fire trail grinds up hill.
Pretty quickly out of there at finish once Al (great run in 2.23) and BA (virus effecting her a not so good run) had finished with having to get back to car at start and then save RobW from the 5 lilliputians. Of course got back to Rob handling it all with ease. A nice morning and pretty good run.

ride home via TCH to visit work colleague who's had an op. HRM really doesnt handle bike riding well with regular spikes. Headwind all the way home from woden and had a flat approaching top of aranda hill. BA had to come and get me in car so we could get kids from childcare.

Belinda convinced me to do early morning run with the heat so headed over to Gossan for 3*easy ecmo ints. felt pretty good and times reasonable for 630am intervals. I reckon could be 10s faster if in the evening! Stinking hot by 7am.
