Hoggster and I met the Devil at Caswell Dve underpass. Dev had already been running for 90+ mins and was suited in full ultra outfit (pack, long socks and shorts). We headed down rani rd, up push bike hill where it got a little bit willing, ANU, war memorial, Ainslie where we bumped into Stu Doyle who joined us and HH before home. Dev and I did a little loop on GMFT at end to get him closer to 3.5hrs. Felt pretty good finally after 5 days and felt like bike riding and o had helped a bit with my hill strength.
We were joined by Pippa and kids at Deli Marx which was nice however Deli Marx produced a black bannable offence. My eggs on turkish didn't arrive and when I followed up it was clear cook had forgotten - a few mins later some eggs on half a turkish bread appeared filled out with some green stuff (spinach leaves?) to make it look more substantial. Disgrace.

Finally got replacement batteries for scales and got a rude shock. Christmas has not been good for my waist line. Immediately put myself on a diet.

Friday morning run with Hoggster. I was late after turning off alarm which Hoggster correctly reported was the same reason I gave on the last Friday run. Pretty warm already but traipsed round some single tracks on Aranda Hill.

Solo ride probably more like 50k and 1hr55 after stopped watch to look at a map and forgot to restart it. Out along gungahlin dve, some getting lost before along Yarrabee Pond and onto Old gundaroo drive which now includes a mostly built bike path to Gundaroo Rd (Mulligans Flat). Then through Mulligans Flat (road all now sealed) and onto Sutton and back down Federal Highway to Dickson. Really enjoyed it with good weather, setting own rhythm and listening to music and EPL round up from night before. Modern technology - I can be cruising through Mulligans Flat listening to the final 10 minutes and wrap up on BBC Radio5Live of QPRs upset win over Chelsea. Amazing. Had coffee, milkshake and scrambled eggs on turkish at the amazingly quick service of Cafe Deli Marx before meeting Belinda, A&Z at Dickson Pool. Ripper.

Evening recovery jog round aranda. Knee still sore, especially on stride impact. It felt a little better towards the end.

Gentlemans ride with Searlo (who had already been for a run today!) round the lake. Definitely gentlemans pace but all hills felt like Mt Ventoux after last weeks races and probably particularly yesterday. Twas hot but good to roll round and yak with the Master. A few people out and about.

Longish run to start which I ran with BA! Novel. Good yak with MFR people at start and pleased to find out I had made the real chasing start, or red start group as I prefer to call it, unlike the losers behind me. Losers.

Day 5 Beechworth Mines (or something like that). Turned out to be an epic after course setters didnt measure course right and they were way too long (I suspect measured 1:15 when map was 1:10 - schoolboy error really). Even without length error course was pretty brutal taking in every climb they could find. I did quite enjoy it though after a while realising it was a war of attrition and just pushing on 1 control at a time. Lowlight was tripping crossing the ravine and landing on left knee and right elbow. Lay on ground swearing wondering if had broken knee cap for a while but then started up again.
The good news at the finish was there had been plenty of DNFs (fair enough) which added to my long list of scalps for the 5 days.
