Oceania Relays with team of Sebba, ANdy and then myself. Ridiculously I went out in mass start - expected winning time of 45mins, Sebba ran 50 and Andy 45 and I go it in mass start?!?!?! Silly. Anyway started well although Craney gone by no 1. Running loosely with WA (young McNulty), NSW (Todkill) and SA (Fatrat) until I mucked up 5 making parrallel error. Pretty dissapointed with self, probably lost 3mins. Then got back into good orienteering hoping others would make an error. Saw Ben and Todkill heading up hill out of pivot as I went down to it for last time so they probably still had the 3mins. Kept o-ing well but hit the paddocks not having caught them back up. Could see WA and Toddkill heading back to finish so knew I wasnt going to catch them but thought, with whole mass start thing, that I might need to finish within certain time of them for our team to still beat them. As a result promptly blew 20 turning myself round going up over hilltop and ending up at 21. ANother 3mins I'd say.

Overall pleased with fitness and terrain running given lack of o specific preperation but dissapointed with number of errors. Maybe push too hard worrying physically not up to it and that causes mistakes. Have to accept best result for me (PB so to speak) will come from running at my ability level and that in turn this will actually produce decent results. Still don't think I'm quite ready to retire to M40 just yet.....:)

Orienteering race 1:46:09 intensity: (37 @0) + (1:41 @1) + (10 @2) + (49 @3) + (32:12 @4) + (1:10:40 @5) 15.32 km (6:56 / km) +397m 6:08 / km

Didnt feel that good in warm up or early part of race which did worry me for long race. First 5 controls did with Eddie who had same on M40 before heading off into fallen timber jungleland. Terrain got the better of me through this section and I was glad when before the pivot control a group of Jimbo, RObW, some Queenslanders and Brownridge (?) caught me up. Put the map away for a few controls to get some rhythm back and did by the time hit the long leg although was only with Jim then. From then on pushed hard and was physically good. Navigation a bit scratchy but had Jim around to clean things up. Saw Andy (2mins ahead start) at turn around control (19?) so was really keen then although promptly droppped a minute or so at that control. Ran very well for rest of course losing a minute or so at 27 but that was a result of pushing the boundaries which I sometimes dont do enough of so ok with that. Really enjoyed race and running with Jim most of the way. Think my run was pretty reasonable although result a little dissapointing as was on the tail end of the other also rans. Also the errors at 19 and 27 cost me chance of beating ANdy who got me by close to 3mins.

12 PM

Orienteering race 22:46 intensity: (1:12 @1) + (4 @2) + (7 @3) + (2:00 @4) + (19:23 @5) 3.4 km (6:42 / km) +96m 5:52 / km

Oz Sprint Champs at Gaerloch. STarted ok choosing easy route choice but really sprinted it. Set the tone for "rushing" and probably straight into o2 debt. Caught Devil and went through ok until long down and across. Worked out later was too high but upshot was blew nearly 3mins. After that knew result was over but still managed to rush and navigate along wrong control line at one point.
