Orienteering race 1:04:48 [4] 8.0 km (8:06 / km)
ahr:143 max:165 shoes: Brooks Cascadia 4 (Tractors)

Total cbf from the start. My list of excuses include no sleep in tent, blowing a gale, almost missed the start due to kids and not being mentally ready for the long haul race. Whatever I was running to the first with jsut a strong feeling of CBF. Made a meal of 3 and nearly gave it away then but convinced myself to at least do the first loop and get a decent run out of it. Consequently kept going round at somewhere between race and long run pace before calling it a day at the map change. Had an excellent burger from the rotary club and then headed home. Kids and belinda slept the whole way home and I got to see plenty of the dogs victory over the Dawks on the tv.

Orienteering race 56:25 [5] 6.3 km (8:57 / km)
ahr:168 max:179 shoes: Brooks Cascadia 4 (Tractors)

ACT Middle Dist Champs at Buckenderra. Started ok but a bit hesitant round circles as got used to scale and detail. Shep went past after no 3 and I seemed to settle into navigation then. A really good patch then navigating well and pushing well through the forest. Much to my surprise Shep caught me again at 12 (? the one before the first big gully crossing). He eased off the pedal so I managed to stick with him through 3 controls but dropped off up the steep climb back up the same gully. Brain was a bit on edge for a brain fade from then on and it happened control before gate when I lost 1- 2mins going down wrong gully. Clicked back into gear after that although faded a bit physically. Overall a good run in such a technical area but again a long way down!

Orienteering race 18:26 [5] 2.7 km (6:50 / km)
ahr:172 max:181 shoes: Brooks Cascadia 4 (Tractors)

ACt Sprint Champs. Ran pretty well, hitting everything well and pushing hard. Started with plenty of map conctact to get first three in the forest and noticed early the elephant tracks (I was 2nd to last starter). Did the ones through the camp well - just like summer series!. Shep caught me in the next lot of forest and I lost a little bit of time through the bush section leading into the spectator control as I tried to keep w shep without map contact - it didnt work and I had to reestablish contact. Having said that prob only lost 30s. Did the last loop fine although bit spent physically. Good run, bit dissapointed to be so far down the list!

Running 1:22:15 [3] 16.0 km (5:08 / km)
ahr:140 max:154 shoes: Nike Air Pegasus26

Run home from work. Butt, lower back and groin a bit dodgy from squash but not too bad. Few spasms in back in first 5mins and thought it might turn nasty but once it warmed up I was fine. Went a slightly different way up through Black Mtn reserve rather than Cork Oak as I was running a bit late and I thought it might be quicker but it turned out pretty much same time. Less people on the paths with the rain keeping the riders away.

Running 24:17 [3] 5.0 km (4:51 / km)
ahr:127 max:166 weight:83.2kg shoes: Nike Air Pegasus26

Finally got to go for a run! Thought about hills but with a possibility of a squash match this arvo and not having run for close to a week erred on the conservative and did a half lap of aranda. Not suprisingly felt pretty fresh.

kayaking 33:24 [3]
ahr:151 max:180

Squash - Four walls and the truth. Played against Cakewoman while she was in Canberra. We used to play when we could when we met up for o. We could recall "tournaments" in Goeteberg, Canberra (when neither of us where living here) and that we had a trophy of a broken squash racquet. Seahawke used to play also.

I figured it was going to be intense not having played for 5+ years so wore my HRM. I was impressed with max of 180! Started off OK hitting the ball pretty well for not having played for so long but Cakewoman, who has played a bit over last year, had my measure and took the first set 9-7. Second set I remembered that I could hit short, hard shots (like CW had done to me all first set) and found my radar to win 9-5 I think. 3rd set all the sprinting and stretching started to get to me ==> Though process: "I think I'm delerious - oh look there goes the ball....". CW won 9-6. What turned out to be the last set (we had a time limit) I thought would be a debacle after previous set but I started to find some serving and returning form for a 9-2 victory. 2 sets all a tie. Did extensive stretching afters for fears fro my hammys, butt muscles and lower back. Great to do a ball sport!

Note

Final day of VOTF. Races well set up in terms of chasing start and spectator points and radios although winners finishing at same time as other action not ideal. Still cant be helped with 4 races, 2 radios, a spectator point and the finish. Wrapped up with presos which had biggest crowd. ALso sound was best we'd had for all days allowing us to play final eps of CC. Brain drained by the end and missed A&Zs birthday cake but basically all good. Great team effort from VOTF with Searlo, RobW, Jose, Lazydave, Mr Average and FatRat all putting in the hard yards over the weekend.
