Orienteering race 2:14:43 [5] 17.2 km (7:50 / km)
ahr:157 max:171 shoes: Brooks Cascadia 4 (Tractors)

ACT Long champs. Started a bit averagely. Almost missed my start due to parenting and then when picked up map and had a 15-20min leg in front of me there was lots of hesitation and took me a while to sort it out so flim-flammed a fair bit through first part of leg. After that though found some navigational and physical rhythm. Was aiming to minimise mistakes so as not to run a step further than necesary and physically to keep a good pace that I could run the whole way. Did these things and even felt like I sped up over last section although physically never felt like I had as much speed as I am capable of. Also could've done with some other guys to run with for a section to break it up but instead ran the whole way solo except for a coupla legs near the map exchange where ALJ was just behind me on her womens course. Really pleased with finish and almost no mistakes. Less pleased with result but really I was just on the tail end of the guys I am trying to mix it with.

Orienteering race 18:22 [5] 3.2 km (5:44 / km)
ahr:166 max:180 shoes: Brooks Cascadia 4 (Tractors)

Sprint at Bruce CIT. 2 loops (although everyone did them in the same order) with a map change in the middle. Unfortunately 3rd last control was in the wrong spot although I wasnt effected as basically was not looking at my map enough, running hard and looked up and saw it. Basically ran really well. Almost no mistakes although a few hesitations in last 5 or so as brain went a bit far into O2 debt and I struggled to keep concentration. On the second loop quite a few controls were the same as the first including 1 identical leg so found myself checking codes a lot as couldnt believe it. Comparing time to sprint at easter I was much closer to the leaders and my result was better (22nd) although a little hard to judge seeing I wasnt effected by the misplaced control at all while plenty of others were. Good race from me.

Orienteering race 40:50 [5] 6.2 km (6:35 / km)
ahr:164 max:181 shoes: Brooks Cascadia 4 (Tractors)

Not as good as this morning. Started navigationally well but felt like physically I was still going at sprint pace. HR confirmed it and I tried to slow a little. Got through the main sand mining no probs navigating quite well but then went across a large sand mining area aiming for a side of the hill with a termite mound on the side of it. In retrospect I probably did hit it in about the right spot but had no confidence of where I was on the hillside, couldnt see the flag and te area was a bit greener than the map indicated, turned right and ran along hillside before hitting an erosion gully which sent me back to where I'd started.... just in time to see Jymbo punch the flag and leave. Jim started 2mins behind so assume I lost 2-3mins there as by the time I punched Jim was a fair way gone. Was pretty agitated about the stuff up and just tried to keep Jim in sight and realised another Victorian was behind me and then not long after that Toph caught us (4mins on me). After that it was a train for me as I pushed hard and tried to navigate into circles to make some ground up. This worked pretty well until the last few longish legs which were a long drag uphill and I didnt lose touch till last control. In the end, in some ways, my mistake didnt matter as I suspect that group running together would've caught me anyway. My result was in fact better than this morning (17th c.f. 21st this morn) and I almost got Andy (10s or so). Certainly results today consolidating my improvement at Easter - and now for 17k tomorrow!

Note
(rest day)

Another day in Sydney with Zoe. Mixed news this time. Her hip continues to improve and as she is starting to try and walk/stand she now gets 8 hours per day out of brace. Quite a lot of time when you consider she sleeps about 14 hours per day. On the down side her hip is not "catching up" in growth to the other one quite as quickly as desired so she may need an operation when she is 3 or so. Regardless no time for exercise.

Terrain Running 44:05 [3] 9.0 km (4:54 / km)
ahr:124 max:149 shoes: Brooks Cascadia 4 (Tractors)

Terrain run on Red Hill. Ran from inlaws past Federal Golf course and into bush. Basically ran straight up hill, did a lap of fancy restaurant and then bailed out to road and tracks for going back as it had got too dark and I didnt have my lights. Nice view from the top.

Cycling 40:00 [3]

Did the bus to work and ride home thing again. Bus ntb as didnt have 9.00am client so no pressure. Good news is there are rumours of a shower in the offices of the scanning place downstairs so will have to get round to asking if I can use. Ride home really nice with ayup lights working a treat.
