swimming 20:00 [3]

In horse racing parlance 'I pulled up lame' from yesterdays run. Achilles very sore, quads pained and other general soreness. Only chance of exercise was a swim so after A&Z went to bed I ducked over to the chlorine bowl (AIS) and cranked out a few laps. Hadn't been there since I trained with the Crockatoos a few years ago and i dont think they've cleaned the pool since.

Running race 2:20:27 [5] 26.0 km (5:24 / km) vdot: 39.3
ahr:158 max:169 shoes: Saucony Triumph 4

3 peaks run. Tried to be steady and fresh at top of Majura which was hard with Patrick & Graeme hovering round sledging and Miss Jones not too far ahead. A small section on the climb when I probably went too fast but otherwise kept a lid on it. Decided to make sure I strode out on th downhills as I figured I'd be pounded by the end if I was conservative anyway so might as well do it properly. Almost caught Miss Jones by bottom of Majura - I'm no downhill expert but Miss Jones pussy foots her way down. Settled in to a group with Patrick and Graeme after they caught me back up and on the way to Mt Pleasant Sanders joined us. A bit of tooing and froing amongst the group as I would get ahead on down hills and Sanders on the up. Group broke up up Mt AInslie with Sanders shooting off, Patrick and I grinding away with P about 30m ahead and Graeme tailing off. The mental picture of 'get to the top of Ainslie then cruise home' did not eventuate as it must've been 6k home from there and I was hurting. Calves in particular feeling every step and left knee sore for a while. Focussed on toughing it out, which I was pleased to say I did. Diced with an Andy Cowie look-a-like most of the way home. Great run by Sanders in particular but also Miss Jones.

Coffee at Sfoglia afterwards was nice although Hoggster outdid himself by declaring intervals better training for orienteering than actually going orienteering. Following his thread I'm heading down the local golf club to tell them they are all wasting their time practising and they would be better off doing chin ups to improve their swing.

Running warm up/down 5:00 [3] 1.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Saucony Triumph 4

Warm up before hand. Warm down was walk to the car and bath when I got home.

Orienteering race 34:27 [4] 5.6 km (6:09 / km)
ahr:159 max:169 shoes: Brooks Tractor

Summer Series at Red Hill. Felt pretty good running so trundled along quite well. Kept sighting Turbo Turner who was up ahead and eventually passed him. Almost got him at No 3 when I had one of those moments where I ran in going yep, yep, yep - its going to be behind that rock there. Except it wasnt. I think, technically speaking, the control was misplaced a little (30m?) too far along the hill but I was so suprised it wasnt there I lost 30s or so, enough for gains on Turbo to be lost. He did sledge me nicely when I past him which was great.

Running warm up/down 2:00 [3] 0.5 km (4:00 / km)
shoes: Brooks Tractor

thought I'd put my 2 minute warm up in seeing I did actually manage to do 2mins warm up this week.

Running 40:03 [3] 8.0 km (5:00 / km)
ahr:136 max:155 shoes: Asics GT2120

Concrete path loop with Andy & Pippa. Felt a bit weird in second half of run which may have been due to coffee I had about 30s before starting run.

Twin Pram Running 39:17 [3] 7.0 km (5:37 / km)
ahr:132 max:148 shoes: Asics GT2120

Late in the day SouthBruceGatedCommunity-Aranda pram loop. After Miss Jones astute observation on Sunday that my HRM was always on the blink I tightened up the strap and it seemed to work fine. Its a fine balance - chesst constriction vs HRM not working.
