Running 1:24:10 [3] 14.0 km (6:01 / km)
ahr:144 max:172 weight:86.5kg shoes: Red&Black Nike Persies

really time to start training properly again - I put on a kilo and a half at NAGS conference. Did long-ish run with Andy and also with Nat, Ella and Pippa for firsst half hour or so. Ran down through Aranda Hill, up Black Mtn and back along classic loop. Plenty of discussion of elections, the price of houses in Cook and gambling.

Running 34:04 [3] 6.0 km (5:41 / km)
ahr:138 max:150 shoes: Red&Black Nike Persies

Another foreshore trot, this time between end of conference and evenings banquet. Lots of people about as the town seemed to be ramping up for end of week partying.

Note

Conference again good today. I went to my favorite sessions on punting on the horses where several UK academics report on systems. i learnt all about the favorite-longshot bias, different groups of punters and bookmakers. One of the studies was PhD student who was funded by the Uni to do 3 months of betting on betfair and the UK version of the TAB! The banquet was at the Hilton which was a hoot and then we all kicked on to the Casino (of course). I didnt play but watched a couple of mates lose at roulette, sic bo and black jack.

Running 40:26 [3] 7.0 km (5:47 / km)
ahr:138 max:154 shoes: Red&Black Nike Persies

Queensland not on Daylight Savings meany I woke up pretty early so headed out for a trot. Accomodation was not that far from the Cairns foreshore so ran over there and they had a nice running track that I did a lap of. As Blair suggested it was very very flat. Weather wise it was about 29 and while much more humid than Canberra not step-off-the-plane-in-Bangkok humid. Felt much better for having snuck out for a little run.

Note

Conferencing all day. there was a really good talk about Casinos in Macau. Found out that one of the Casinos in Macau is the 2nd biggest building in the world, biggest is the Boeing factory building(s) in Seattle. Also come good stuff on multicultural counselling and prevention using finger print USB's that you put in the pokie machine. The evening was a special invite (I'm on the NAGS exec) to a dinner at the Casino's fancy restaraunt. The chocolate-tart for desert was to die for. I sat next to the manager of Crown Casino's 'customer care' program while on the other table was the owner of the Casino who was 'sponsoring' (paying for) the dinner. The Crown guy used to be Police Commissioner of Tassy and Asst Police Commisioner in Victoria and told some cracker stories.

Note
(rest day)

Enforced rest day. Flew to Cairns for National Association of Gambling Studies (NAGS) conference. NAGS is a meeting of problem gambling treatment sercives, government gambling regulators and the gambling industry to discuss all things gambling. Had no time between flying, accomodation and conferencing.
My first activity in getting some of my clients money back was the official opening reception. It was held in the Wildlife dome on the roof of the Cairns Casino. Its a giant glass dome which encases a small rainforest filled with birds, small marsupials and somewhere there was a crocodile, all on the roof of the Casino. Very cool wandering round being served drinks and nibbles and catching up with various people. A uni mate has begun working at a large Clinic in Sydney so saw her and met a whole bunch of her mates. Had a meeting of NAGS exec afterwards in Hilton Hotel over the road. Drinks again - I could see a pattern emerging.

Cycling 53:00 [3]

commute. cracker jack morning. bike path was bursting with traffic - luckily they respected my authori-tie.

Running 1:02:03 [3] 11.0 km (5:38 / km)
ahr:135 max:156 shoes: Red&Black Nike Persies

Not into the rhythm of summer-training yet so didnt bring gear to work for xc or Mt Ainslie run-up. Instead made sure I left work on time and managed to get an hour run in. Up Painter (conditions better than on the weekend) then back onto classic concrete path loop. was moving pretty slowly. Off to conference-land tomorrow with prob v.little time for training (or trogging) so will have to get back into real training next week.

Conference is at Cairns Casino so my intention is to investigate thoroughly just how far the gambling industry is prepared to go in providing free-bies in an effort to compromise fearless Psychologists such as myself. Somebody's gotta do it.

Note
weight:85kg

increased running + increased drinking = weight stays the same.

not sure how much running will be able to do this week as I will be very busy at a conference from Wednesday through Friday.

Running 34:37 [3] 6.0 km (5:46 / km)
ahr:117 max:137 shoes: Red&Black Nike Persies

Cook Blob with Walders & Nat. Hoggster & Ella started out with us but Hoggster sprung a leak in his calf so abandoned. Pretty lacklustre pace but I think we all appreciated it. Nat was resplendent in flash new gear bought from the US.
