Running intervals 26:00 [5] 4.0 km (6:30 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2100

Tried a mona fartlek session, geez it was hard. I was counting down the intervals after the first one and having to really push myself not to fall over after each push. Actually had to take a double break in middle somewhere because I was starting to get a stitch. Dissapointed when my Polar footpod told me I was only running ~4:50/km on the hard bits; I would swear I was killing that. I've been starting to doubt some of it's readings lately. I'll have to calibrate it.

Running 30:00 [3] 4.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2100

Run to UoC for the intervals inside on the 200m running track and some warm up/down.

Note

Did the Polar Fitness test this morning and got 58. Last test a couple of months ago was 57. This number is supposed to be a close approximation of your V02Max. Disappointed with this score, but I haven't really done a lot of intervals so maybe I shouldn't expect anything.

Yoga 1:15:00 [2]

Special yoga for runners session. Mostly the same stuff as other yoga I've done but the guy taking the session is a runner and has a some background in biomechanics so it was quite good.

Orienteering race 15:10 [3] ** 2.3 km (6:36 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Empire

Sprint race to raise funds for the Canadian HPP. Felt good running but had a shocker and missed no 9 altogether and then did 13 & 14 in reverse order ... pretty happy with my fitness though.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [2] 4.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Empire

Run to orienteering from work and a warm up before the race.

Cycling warm up/down 15:00 [1]
(rest day)

Spent 15 min on the trainer at lunch and then did some stretching. Felt pretty tired on the bike and I want to fall asleep at my desk now.

Running long 2:11:00 [2] 19.0 km (6:54 / km) +185m 6:34 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Empire

This session was meant to be hills with FWOC at Edworthy Park ... I decided to run there from work with my backpack but took a few wrong turns, got there late and then ran around fruitlessly trying to find the others. Eventually I gave up, ran part of the way home and jumped on a bus near the Foothills Hospital.

Running 40:00 [2] 6.7 km (5:58 / km) +50m 5:45 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Empire

A warm, muggy day. Felt lethargic this morning and didn't improve much on the run. Think I was a bit dehydrated. Made it to the overpass over John Laurie Blvd to Nose Hill and felt like dying so stopped for while and stretched. Home run was better because it was downhill.

I nearly got hit by a car ... then I apologised to the driver. These super-polite Canadians are giving me bad habits.

Cycling 2:00:00 [2]

Meegs and I rode the inaugural stage of the Giro del Fagiolo Estremo, aka Tour de Extreme Bean. The Aussies back home got me worked up with all their talk of coffee and brioche, so here is a Calgary alternative. This cafe in Point McKay was recommended by a couple of Italian friends -- the coffee was good and the bran and mixed berry muffins were delicious.

Rode west from Varsity through down to Bowmont Park, turning east along the river to Kensington and then north up the hill and back home.
