Running 32:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:20 / km) +70m 5:02 / km
shoes: Nike Free 5.0 (grey/green)

Lazy lunchtime run from KG through the Roma St Parklands down to the river and then a lap of the botanic gardens finishing up at Brothers for a short mach and some more beans. Threw in three ~1min efforts to make my legs understand that I'm serious about this running thing again, well, if not serious then at least regular about it. My legs payed me back by getting prematurely tired. Stupid legs.

Note

No training today, felt really lethargic. Wondering if I'm coming down with whatever Megan has had. Spent all of the Masterchef finale plus a bit picking all the f@#$g grass seeds out of the gear I wore at Kholo Hills a fortnight ago.

Missed the long run this morning but decided to do something short by myself. Planned for 45min but didn't take a watch ended up doing an hour. Felt really good at the beginning, was moving along at a good clip and sprightly up the hills but by the time I'd got out to Anzac Park I was starting to feel tired. The return leg was a bit of a struggle. Shows how much fitness I've lost since April.

Ewan and I caught a lift to Mundoolun with Clare who kindly minded Ewan while I ran. My aim to day was to run steadily again but to look and read the terrain more instead of relying on my compass as I'm wont to do, and to have better flow. The latter was quite easy due to it being nice open rolling spur-gully (it reminded me of Mulligan's Flat in the ACT) and I did better with the prior than last week. Only really lost time at control 4 when I was a little too high and lost maybe 20s running down to it. I had a few little hesitations in places but nothing worth talking about. Actually, my biggest time lose was the 2min or so spent marking my map - I didn't pre-enter so they made me draw my map after starting - a little silly for a state event if you ask me.

OY at Kholo Hills. I planned to take this one steadily, starting slowly and focusing on good technique and then try to increase to my intensity if it was all working and I basically managed to do this though I faded physically and couldn't increase my intensity much. I didn't have a lot of confidence in my navigation which is probably a result of having done no orienteering recently and feel like I should have more precision and attack. Despite that my flow was okay albeit slow and it would have been a reasonable outing except for a brain fade on #8 when I turned 90 degrees to the right and ran across the spur I should have been running up. Hmmm, perhaps I should be checking my compass more frequently?

Running (Commute) 1:10:00 [3] 12.5 km (5:36 / km) +100m 5:23 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova Control 9

Finally got my organised and motivated and joined Anna for the commute home. Met her at the ICB overpass and then followed the bike path to Roma St and then along the river to Toowong, where I left Anna, and the followed Moggill Rd and Burbong St. The run to Anna's place in Toowong was nice, a good chat helped, and I could have happily stopped there. Unfortunately I still had 20min of hard slog remaining. I was pretty tired on the last few hills but I guess it's a pretty decent run with a bag on and I have done no running lately so it's not unexpected.

A cruisy run from home to the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens via Anzac Park to meet Megan and Ewan and a friend of Megan's. Beautiful day and felt good despite the muscle soreness from Friday's soccer. Nice to be running again :)

Soccer 20:00 [5]

Work soccer comp. Was looking forward to playing again after missing the previous game and having watched a few World Cup games. The game ended in a draw but both teams had good chances and it could have gone either way. Played hard and was feeling all the accelerations after the first half.
