Puttenham Common Brown, 4.9+180

Nice to be out orienteering, but not the greatest day in the office.

Calf hurt from the off (perhaps in sympathy with PaulC), not enough to stop but enough to be distracting. Plus, for some reason I set off at top speed, which put me navigationally on edge the whole time and made for a very tough second half.

Result, one 2-minute mistake halfway round as the brain just didn't process the necessary information fast enough, and almost 8 minutes down on the winner. Ouch. It was a pretty easy area, but still. Must Do Better Next Time.

Calf uncomfortable afterwards so will need some R&R. Hopefully Auntie Kim is right, just because it doesn't hurt doesn't mean it's fine, and just because it does doesn't mean it's not healing.

Checking out controls for the Richmond Street-O, on the bike.

Despite having lived next to Richmond Park for 15 years, today was the first day I used Bishop's Gate to access it. My excitement was difficult to contain.

With Abi.

Legs felt good, cardio less so as I was breathing quite heavily up the hills.

Also, calf started twanging on the last 50 metres, which isn't a great surprise given backache, no massage and limited strength work. It'll be fine, but it would have been entirely avoidable.

A slippery affair due to weak thighs and shoes with rubbish support, which I need to fix.

Amazing that even after 5 of these in 2 weeks, I still make some mini route choice mistakes when switching off. In one of them I encountered a man in full cammo gear sat under a tree in the undergrowth. I'm pretty sure his black stick type object was a telescope, but I didn't hang around to double check.

Also, respect for the one deer that stood its ground as I ran past. Not aggressively, just in a nonchalant 'beautiful morning, isn't it just' kinda way.
