Wimbledon Common MapRun, 'April' course 6.6/100

Third of three MapRun courses on Wimbledon. Fine technically, although by now I really do know the area by heart. Physically lumbering and stiff again and not for the first time I tripped over a branch, except this time I landed with my knee on some rocks. 'Tis but a fleshwound, but I ripped my favourite (only) O trousers.

It is the curse of the orienteer to have 10+ decent O tops but only ever 1 decent pair of O trousers.

A more ‘normal’ course with 23 controls on a mix of (soft) forest and heather. How lucky am I to be able to do these?! Thanks Colin.

Flew out of the traps as the forest was so nice, then paid for it on the tussocky open in the hot sun. Clean first half but then lost 3.5’ spread over 5 mistakes in the brackeny forest. Physically tough but ground it out reasonably well until the end.

3rd place this time, 1.09 down. So close, dang it. To be fair, a clean run would have been almost impossible and I’m keeping mistakes to under 1’, but there’s still too many of them. I reckon some compass training would help.

Watching Tennis long 1 [5]

Watched the US Open Final until 2am, then took a while for the adrenalin to settle. What a final set. Only the second Austrian to win a Slam. This morning was a little tricky.
