Note

A couple of weeks ago, the UK lockdown rules changed from 'exercise allowed near home' to 'you can drive as far as you like to exercise, as long as you come back home in the evening'. After some consideration, I decided to take this as a challenge - to see how far I could push it while still staying within guidelines.

You are welcome to judge me for my callousness / pollution / risk-taking, but after 2+ months at home I needed an adventure.

After a 6am start and a 5h drive, first stop Lizard Point, the southernmost point of Great Britain. Parked inland and then did a lovely coastal loop past the Point itself.

It's quite a craggy coast with a 60m high headland, so lots of ups and downs. Felt good and the run was challenging but not annoyingly so, except for the end back into the headwind. As expected, lovely views in the sunshine, and barely any people.

Another hour in the car to get to Land's End, the official 'end of Great Britain' and westernmost point in England. Parked at Sennen Cove beach and crossed the headland before looping back past Land's End.

Another lovely run with few people around, even if the last 3km were pretty tough. Enjoyed my celebratory swim and ice cream at the end! (The beach car park was surprisingly busy but luckily the beach was enormous.)

Drove back to St Ives via the coastal road (picking up a 'takeaway Cornish cream tea') then straight home. 610 miles / 975 km in total, three cheers for rental cars with 'unlimited mileage'.

Great day out although it did confirm that Cornwall isn't my thing. Yes the coast is beautiful but if like me you prefer mountains to water then it might disappoint.

Second check of new MapRun course on Richmond Park.

Feeling totally pooped from the start so was a real slog. Should have done a shorter loop really. At least partly caused by pretty humid heat.

Don's new MapRun on Wimbledon Common. He's managed to actually find some white bits of forest, which is no mean feat.

I was keen for the widget to actually record all the controls this time, so had to run in circles a few times until it beeped.

Navigation is definitely rusty but it was hot and it's hard to get properly motivated.
